I also feel like there are too many M Power, S line or AMG ... But if that is what the market wants ...

I am on the verge of debadging my E64 and replacing it by

By the way, how much does a debadge, rebadge cost?

I do agree that the M badge craze is OTT. A young fella has been turning up recently for the neighbours daughter and he has a 1999/2000 era 316 that is plastered with a big M badge. Despite have tiny wheels and a pea shooter exhaust. He revs the life out of it lol. Each to their own. I am in the market soon for buying an M5 so I will be looking to see how others in their M trim cars look at the M5. Read from many real M owners that some people get very embarrassed. M trim does look good but they could have named it something different as these are simply not real M cars. True M cars stand out. I love the 4 exhausts.

"Looks like an M3, to the untrained eye" is one of the most amusing phrases about this when someone mentions their 318d M-sport with all the embellishments.

Who exactly IS this "untrained eye" and if they ARE untrained, are they actually going to care about the differences?

It sells cars. They'd be mad to not do it, really. And they can sell the silly 'M Performance' addons at silly cost too.

People want the looks but can't afford the running costs of a big engine. It's nothing new.

I can sit smugly at the lights with my V8 burbling away smile
C'mon, M3's don't burble wink

The X5 E70 was a completely different car when they added the M Sport body kit, making it look much more modern and handle significantly better. The sport seats were much better than the half electric seats that the SE model came with too.

Most V8's will sound ok with a mod you'll find!

I don't actually see what's wrong with this?

Or this

If I was in the market for a 3-series, I'd go for exactly the M-Sport one, with the nice bits on it.

I agree, I have been a Merc customer for the last 14 years, my current E class is now 5 years old. I think the new Mercs are now more blingy than BMW to the point where I won't be buying any of the latest models.

The Estoril blue car, is a perfectly goo looking car. The white one with the M performance kit and those silly stickers on the sills is a bit heavy handed for my taste, but I can see why they appeal.

BMW are at least differing the two by having M-Sport and actual 'M' cars. Merc put AMG badges on anything and everything now.

But then I'm a E90 M Sport owner so obviously bias.

It's awesome that people like and buy these things as it funds the full on M and AMG models.

It's sell cars, that's why they do it.

A lot of people don't even realise the badging is from the performance version.

A guy I use to work with was looking at Audi A5's, was browsing autotrader site with him and I selected the S5 to see what prices they are at, saw one which was nice and the first thing he said to me but it's not a S-Line, I want a S-Line meaning the diesel one he saw a few minutes ago.

It's all about image and looks for a lot of people.

Merc sell 'AMG Line' tat. AMG badges only go on AMG cars don't they? Perhaps unscrupulous dealers are slapping the badges on the back?

They can put as many badges and stickers on, at the end of the day it can't beat the real thing.

Drove past one of those AMG line C class (CDI something...) last time, pressed the throttle a bit and the owner looked at me.... Yes bh, that's what a real AMG C63 sounds like!
