RE: New Porsche 911 GT3 - Geneva 2017

I suppose that if each dealer only gets 15 of them, then there's never going to be any chance for the likes of you and me to buy one.
I called up my local OPC again this morning to ask, and was again told to politely do one or order a GTS or Turbo. (And I've had 3 cars from them over the years.)
15 per dealer is nothing.
Obviously the principle's wife will get one, and his 4 best mates, and his rich uncle Arthur, and then there will be the 6 famous local celebs and footballers who are on the 'GT VIP Club' list cause they provide the DP and his wife with invites to lots of VIP gigs throuout the year. That leaves just 3 cars for people he really had to persuade to buy a panamera, boxster and Macan in one go earlier in the year.
I, you and we are never going to get one at list.

I have no illusions of being in any way able or eligible to buy this sort of car, ever, but this is just depressing on principle. DPs shouldn't be allowed to do this imo and those that do, however lucrative it may be, should be flogged with Bosch wiper arms (other brands available). I accept it's a business but it just seems wrong to hand more advantage to folks who will likely already have too much. If they get 15 cars each, surely they should only be permitted to tie up 1-2 of them (demo plus personal car or whatever) and the rest should be allocated first come, first served or based on a blind lotto-type draw of the first X number of enquirers. Anything else is just "Pork for your mates" (those "mates" seemingly being those individuals willing and able to give said DP a tongued-up one-hander whilst said DP motorboat's their mother's assets during the purchase of numerous, heavily-optioned vehicles from said DP at list price. Or something.).
Spivs and speculators rule the world. I'd like to get off please (yes, that way too ).

lucky i am a pleb so couldn't afford one even if they did sell them to customers lol
Porsche go and make every top model in limited numbers therefore each one will rise in price and they know it.
Same as other countries Porsche dealers in U.K. are charging more than RRP for even second hand cars profiteering where they can.
If Porsche wanted to stay true to driving enthusiasts then they need to build cars to satisfy demand, not restrict numbers on a model such as this new GT3.
If Porsche were serious about any of this then why can't I as a Porsche enthusiast order a GT3, GT4, RS or R model of anything?
Demand is just driven higher by profiteering types jumping in who are brown nosing the dealers and grabbing the cars before the real buyer can and then hiking the price. Pointless unscrupulous dodgy middle men and culpable Porsche dealer network exacerbating the problem. My only hope now is this new model will actually cause a levelling or even drop in 997.1 GT3 prices.

Owned a 991 GT3 and 991 GT3RS. The GT3 was 90% of the car. Also just don't get why you would go for manual in this - the engine deserves a PDK to get the best of it. Being 'more involved' with a manual in this car is bs - banging through the PDK box to 9k is some thrill!
I can't speak from experience of a 991 GT3 / RS but I'd say that the involvement part of the PDK / tri-pedal debate need not be treated as part of some competition to prove manhood / PH status / anything else. I mean objectively you could argue both are involving you in the process of changing gear, giving you a measure of control and tactile input. It's just that some enjoy and value the nature of that involvement differently.Difference is not BS - to call it such borders on fascism in fact. I mean no offence, but I believe it to be true.
Let's not all fall victim to the cheap shots when PH does a fairly cheeky bit of click baiting
The real story should be how limited supply in fact is, unless you're willing and able to whack a double digit premium on top of the RRP for so-called "overs" market (and only should you be lucky enough to be granted leave to spread your [-]cheeks/-] chequebook to enter that particular sado-masochistic party ).

The idea that one isn't more involved in a manual is just silly. The clutch pedal definitionally adds another level of involvement. That's not to say the PDK can't be fun in its own way, though Chris Harris said that most of the time he left the gen 1 GT3 gearbox in auto as it was better at choosing gears than him. I haven't driven a GT3 or an RS, but I found the 991 Carrera 4S with PDK I drove to be a bit anodyne, whereas the 981 Boxster PDK to be sublime and perhaps the transmission of choice, though I didn't drive a manual Boxster for comparison.
