The computer is well known for being wildly optimistic. 48+ is typical for me too, but when I do the brim to brim calculation that usually equates to around 40 mpg. Most I've seen on the computer is 62.8 mpg, but the brim to brim figure was just over 52 mpg.
That's why I specified that it was a computer measurement. So far not bothered to measure it properly. Full tank lasts as long as it did in my Civic which has a tank 13 litres bigger. Winner. It looks like the extra gear on the mk2 helps a great deal.

The 1.2 is apparently a sweet engine, and frugal. It likes revs and needs revs, so that might play to the James Hunt A35 van driving philosophy. It doesn't have the steering feel or motorway refinement of the Sport though.
They made a lot of changes when they developed the Sport - see the press pack for info. That attention to detail was definitely a factor in my decision to buy the Sport over rivals.
Genuine thanks for the info; I love stuff like this when researching a new (to me) car They made a lot of changes when they developed the Sport - see the press pack for info. That attention to detail was definitely a factor in my decision to buy the Sport over rivals.
BTW your link didn't work for me, I had to trim it down.

seems that way, I've found quite a few people annoyed with the RPM required for motorway work on the first generation SportIt looks like the extra gear on the mk2 helps a great deal.

Indeed. At motorway speeds you're pulling 4000rpm with the Mk1 and it can get a bit wearing. Also you are very close to the VVT switchover point (or it coming "on cam", or whatever) which can make a big difference on fuel economy. It looks like the extra gear on the mk2 helps a great deal.
Interestingly, the Mk1 and Mk2 share the same engine code so it would be feasible to put the 6-speed box in the Mk1. Not saying it would be financially viable to, though.

You're welcome, and oops :-)BTW your link didn't work for me, I had to trim it down.
Hope you get a decent test drive - try to find some roundabouts.

I currently have a Panda 100HP.
Was thinking about buying a 2013 swift sport to replace it with.
Would it be a decent move up? Purely looking for a city type car with more power than Panda 100HP.
Commuting and station car it will be for most of its life.
While it will be a big move up from a Panda 100HP because of the improved ride comfort, interior quality, and features, I think a Swift Sport as a station car would be a total waste. I don't think any of these cars are at home in the city because of their firm ride and reduced turning circle. Was thinking about buying a 2013 swift sport to replace it with.

when it constantly is referred to the last of the good old school style hot hatches then its a no brainer. you need only look at how much the 5th Gear team love it.Was thinking about buying a 2013 swift sport to replace it with.

I previously had an ss1 and loved it's lightness and agility. Great revving it out but then that's also it's negative.
I ended up working 90 miles away and on the motorway it was a complete pain. I sound very old and boring for saying that but for a country lane it was great. Stop/start traffic jam on motorway or cruising at speed limit was very tiring. Not that economical and little sound proofing meant blasting the radio to hear it and ring ears once I stopped after a long journey.
Looking forward to test driving the ss3. The low weight really appeals and hopefully it handles great with good feel and economical. Not too fussed about straight line speed. Shame it doesn't look more aggressive.
Hopefully it sounds good ( although not that hopeful) as will be hard to replace my current bmw 6 cylinder if it sounds like a hoover.

Yes, my experience was very similar. I ended up working 90 miles away and on the motorway it was a complete pain. I sound very old and boring for saying that but for a country lane it was great. I quite like the styling on the new Ignis tbh, but no performance variant for some reason.
In my '14 plate I get ~40mpg overall. It' s actually a very pleasant and easy car for normal driving and fine on a run, but you do suffer as expected when you floor it. Edited by Mr2Mike on Saturday 5th August 15:21
I go to pick up my new Swift Sport tomorrow. I'm really looking forward to it, I've never had an NA car before, i've always had turbo'd so this will make a nice change.
I really like the look of the new one as well and the power to weight is looking pretty good. It does loose some of it's appeal by going turbo in my eyes because when you compare it to all of the turbo'd competitors like Abarth the swift comes across a bit tame.
I'm sure Suzuki will do a good job though and if they can get the handling and engine response just right on the new model the Swift Sport might continue to keep it's place in the market as the sensible grown up warm hatch.

If it was Suzuki's first go since the Ignis Sport, we'd be loving the idea!
Unfortunately the MK1 and MK2 have really set a high bar. "Last of the breed". If you ever fancied an old school hot hatch as a daily but wanted a few more creature comforts, and easier to source parts, it's the go to car.
I have an 11 plate MK1 SSS. Revs to 7200rrpm and has a great noise to go with it too. Gearbox whine in 1st and second, more of a roar mid range in 3rd and a harsh metallic induction note at the top. A riot to drive at legal speeds. 5 speed has it's issues but suits the car perfectly.

Personally I'm not that bothered about aspiration, but I know some people just prefer NA cars and it's a shame there's no new hot hatch for them any more.
Regardless, it's this car's weight figure that's caught my eye - it seems remarkably light by today's standards. I'll be interested to hear how it drives.

I like the look of this at first glance, more so than the new Fiesta, .
Not surprising since they seem to have modelled the general layout on the previous ST. That said, for me, it still looks awkward with those tiny "Kia Soul" type windows. Yellow is not a good look either, perhaps toned down it would have been happier..Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
