Have you got a car you'll never part with?
Discussion
I've owned my Mk1 Focus RS since Jan '06, and I can't see myself selling it. It last got used in 2010 and then got laid up / stored for various reasons.
Since 2012 I:
- contemplated selling it, wrote a decent advert for it, but then couldn't bring myself to put it up for sale.
- bought more parts for it incase I did put it back on the road.
- decided to put it back on the road, but then never had the will / inclination / ability to be able to do it.
- decided to break it for spares, wrote out a massive advert / list of bits, prices / values, etc, but again couldn't bring myself to do it.
- decided I really need to get it back on the road in 2018 (just like I've said many times before), otherwise the cost of getting it back on the road again is just going to keep getting more expensive.
Of course whilst I've been doing the above, I've mainly been using my 205 GTI over the last few years, which has now resulted in that slowly heading towards that stage where it's also going to need it's own restoration soon too

I never thought I'd sell my CSL at one point, then it was only once I could replace it with a 964 RS. But in the end I spent a fortune doing work on it, then promptly stopped using it and left it undercover, and finally got an offer and off it went with little regret
So don't ever plan to sell this, but I think that's contingent on me driving the stones off it every now and then

I took early retirement in 2014, so spent the lump sum on a car I'd always fancied - BMW Z4 Coupe - and clearing most of the mortgage.
I had a part-time job, but in November 2015 that came to an end and the following month I got a painful bill for a replacement electric water pump.
So I fell out of love with the car a bit, and in April 2017 replied to a forum post from someone looking for one. He came to see it on a Sunday, so I took it for a last drive on the Monday and realised what I would be missing. But then he called me that night to pay me a deposit.
Anyway I found one with a bit higher mileage for less money and put a deposit on that on the Wednesday.
Won't be making that mistake again! I need a dose of N/A straight 6 petrol and RWD in my life, and there won't be any more of those.
So it's staying - at least until I end up being unable to get in or out of it!

I was split between having one of these or the M3 I ended up buying in January, mostly because I jus my couldn’t not tick the M car box just once. If/When the running costs start to break me it’ll be one of these the M3 gets swapped for. I’m a big fan of the 3.0 6 cylinder in BM’s. 90% of the time the cheap 330 I had before the M3 sounds nicer to my ears, it’s just that 10% of induction noise past 5500rpm that’s utterly sublime! My 65 mg roadster, it doesn’t owe me much money and nothing else delivers such an engaging driving experience for the price I payed. My 535d will be replaced soon for something the misses can insure.
The only thing that could replace the mg would be an old Porsche 911 but I can’t see that being a viable option any time in the near future.

My Integra Type R. UK car, standard & very very tidy. 60k now.
In regular (& proper) use at the moment. Il probably garage it for the winters eventually- but I just love driving it so much.
For me it’s the ultimate FWD experience out of the box and still so so capable compared to today’s offerings.
It always feel special to drive & draws many admiring glances too. A very good sign!
Can’t see me ever parting with it!

Not a car, but I fancy keeping my T595 Daytona a good while longer and don't see a reason to sell. They're hard to find in this sort of condition now too. The 955i engine remains a firm favourite of mine.
A bike from the time when sport bikes could be ridden all day by full sized people! I still have my first bike, a 1985 Kawasaki GPZ 600r. Had it 18 years, its undergoing a second restoration with a paint job that cost more than its worth.
I’ve also got a heavily modified 85 BMW k100 that I’ve had for about 10 years that’s unlikely to go anywhere.
My 2014 Triumph explorer still does everything I want it to 3 years after I bought it, I do love the Triumph triple howl.
Do people change cars and bikes less as they get older? I’ve certainly slowed down, but the quality of the vehicles has gone up overall so I don’t see them as disposable.
At 40 I’m on car 20 and have had 9 bikes, and I’m in the relatively new position of not actively looking for a new vehicle.
Well maybe another bike to add to the collection....

That location takes me back a few years.... I grew up in North Devon and as a child I used to pass this spot en route to the midlands for Christmas.I have a Range Rover that I've had from new and from 2005. I wouldn't like to part with it now as it's had such family history.

My Porsche
For all intents and purposes it is everything I know about cars, in a car. I've done nearly a quarter of a million miles in it and yet I'm still not entirely sure what to do with it. It's been used as a van, the basis of a piece of art, as farm machinery, as ballast for a hot air balloon....... it's my automotive comfortable trainers and I hope it is around for many, many years to come.
Yours is the cause of at least 5-6 Porsche 996 purchases over the last year, myself included! For all intents and purposes it is everything I know about cars, in a car. I'd hope to never part with mine after many years of wanting one, hopefully there's never a set of circumstances that force my hand.
The 335D is probably the same story as its now done so many miles its worth about 5p - as long as it doesn't throw any gigantic bills.
