It's a daft idea, quite brilliant, but I do think it loses a bit of appeal by being an in-house factory job rather than some lunatic in his shed.

I did think to myself back when I first heard about the Cygnet that AM should have done a tie-up with BMW to produce a luxurious 1-series-based RWD hatchback (perhaps with the V8!) as a sort-of-successor to the Panther Rio (Jankel's tarted-up Triumph Dolomite), and maybe stuck the less powerful 4.3 V8 in a restyled Z4 as an entry-level sub-Vantage sports car. Oh, and maybe an AM Mini with the BMW 1.6 straight-six bike engine?

How do you know its a Land Cruiser? When I looked on the DVLA it just says Toyota. So, assuming the started with an IQ rather than cutting up an actual signet, couldn't it be a 4.7 litre Toyota? Its near enough black.
Now look at the MOT history... A ~170k 2002 Land Cruiser.

A GSX-R 1000 bike engine has been done. Dubbed the "Smartuki".

A picture of this car should replace the description of "Bonkers" in the dictionary.

Awesome.

Bike engines don't count. Need a ridiculous multi-cylinder with stupid horsepower..../.

All the people moaning about this are doing a great job of reminding me just how miserable PHers can be. I mean seriously?... It’s just a bit of lunacy/fun for the hell of it. I bet it can twirl like an ice skater if you up the revs and dump the clutch laughlaugh

That’s nuts.
Looks wider than it is long.
All this talk of 0 to 60. Not sure I’d want to be in at that speed.
Well done Aston though.

Looks great, thanks for the photos. I love completely bonkers cars like this, gives me hope that not everyone is content driving bland German barges!

I doubt you'd get one in without making it look vastly more stupid than it already does.

Supercharged MR2 engine? A hillclimb car, not road legal, and it did have 'issues' on launch smile

I am surprised that with 430bhp and that amount of torque it takes so long to do 0-60??
According to one of the Aston guys at Goodwood today they’ve never tested it - so no idea where the 4.2 figure has come from. He reckoned 3’s and that seem far more likely having seen it go!

Can you imagine the look of confusion as everyone is wondering where the V8 noises are coming from as you blast down the local high Street?! Superb!

Everyone going on about "it would be better if built by a loon in his shed not Aston", I just think it's nice Aston still own a bunch of sheds filled with people they pay to be loons wink

Agreed. More recently they've just been tasked with adding stripes, badges or coloured stitching so this nonsense is a great break from that sort of nonsense. thumbup
