The depreciation on this thing surely is going to be off the chart.... when you think you can get a 6 month old M5 for under £70k i.e. half the price. I’ve honestly no idea who they think is going to buy this?
No-one buys them - they "finance them" through PCPs or leases. The monthlies might be a little more on this one - one for a wealthy hire car pilot.

Engine management light on, and potentially leading to an abyss of financial misery.Brake discs and pads needed in the next 6 months leading to an abyss of financial misery.
Handful of electrical items requiring attention leading to an abyss of financial misery.
........ I'm a huge fan of driving near-fully depreciated cars, and fixing and maintaining them at home on the driveway. I fear our days of being able to do that with anything at all, let alone anything vaguely interesting or special, are very numbered.

Few, if any, will walk into the dealership with the sticker price in a suitcase of cash, however plenty will have a budget of £2500 a month to "rent" one for a year.

Overall I like it, it does have some awkward proportions at the back but overall it's certainly better looking than the current CLS despite being incredibly similar.
The trouble is that ultimately this is the new CLS63 and yet it's a lot more expensive because it's a called a GT. I've no doubt it's a terrific car to drive and if you want a car that does everything, fast, high spec, put the family in this has to be up there.
But that said, will this offer you that price difference more as a whole more than an E63? Debatable.
Personally I'm sticking with my CLS63 and I'll save my pennies for an AMG GT with two doors as to have alongside it.
And under the skin it's actually an E class or CLS class. The trouble is that ultimately this is the new CLS63 and yet it's a lot more expensive because it's a called a GT. A glorious way for MB to make money.
And the E class is better looking.
But given my experiences with numerous Mercedes I would find a car from another manufacturer.
My advice - buy the Porsche.

It may sell very well, you know people like expensive things whether they're worth it or not. As said it'll likely depreciate something chronic. I'd happily own one when it's 15% of it's current price! haha

That said is the E/CLS underpinning a terrible thing? Probably not but for £120k something a bit more bespoke would be appreciated. When the E63S exists it makes you wonder the point of this other than it competing with the Panamera!

No - not a bad thing per se until you realise the whole dash and basic floor plan is shared with a £330pm 220d PCP special. Bar the engine and suspension tuning - how much of it is actually different to a car that costs 1/4 of the price. I suspect that might grate - a bit. It's a tarted up E class, not a bespoke car like the actual AMG GT. It may sell very well, you know people like expensive things whether they're worth it or not. The Panamera starts at a much higher starting point and really is a lovely lovely thing.

You are probably right. But we can bin all the crap i.e. everything and chuck the engine, fitted with 4 x IDF48s, into a Mk1 Elise Although by then, a MK1 Elise will cost $10,000,000

I seriously doubt the people who will buy these cars will give it the same level of thought that you have in that regard. The Panamera starts at a much higher starting point and really is a lovely lovely thing.

The 'proper' AMG GT though, yes please!
I can imagine these four door GTs becoming a potential bargain used though.

Thanks for the link enjoyed that vid.Looks really odd tbh, the normal gt is a thing of beauty and i lust over one! However in this guise the panamera simply wipes the floor with it, I was looking round a new one the other day (im not sure if it was a turbo or gts) but it look fking incredible and way way better than the last one. The interior was stunning too.
That said maybe it will be a grower.

The CLS 63AMG shootingbrake, is better looking, same underpinnings, same running gear, more practical and 30-40% cheaper - no brainer!
Also something that I find really dissappointing in a car of this value, is how utterly crap the cavity left by the extended wing looks. Make a fixed wing that looks good all the time OR engineer a solution that looks as neat up as it does down. Unacceptable IMO for a car of this cost and perceived quality!!!
There is no such model. The new CLS C257 has no shooting brake and the most powerful CLS AMG is the 53 version, with the new in line 6 & eq boost & electric compressor. It must be difficult to make such a big machine look attractive, but I think, with this, Mercedes have had a damn fine attempt.
Highlight for me are the bulges on the bonnet and the front end styling.
Inside looks not so good, in my opinion. I think they could make the dash screens a bit less ‘stuck on’ looking, and I’d hope those blue lights could be turned down a bit.
Lovely big machine though.
I’d love one, but that’ll never happen, so just a go round the block would do.

Yes these will be bought on PCPs, but none the less it must be a candidate for the fastest depreciating car currently built. Maybe alongside the new M8. On the basis you can get a 2016 M6 gran coupe for a little over £40k retail (£30-35k trade?) it will be interesting to see where these get to in 2-3 years.

M760i and any v12 S class - although as a car both are preferable day to day being more luxurious and built around a more expensive platform. You could be right and I suspect many will bauk when they learn it’s an “e class” under the skin.
