Really? I see plenty of XEs on the road, whereas - apart from my brother's Quattro Formaggio, I've seen about three Giulias.To smash it in terms of sales here Alfa or Jag need a phev or ev version..

And Jaguar's calibration of the all-wheel drive is off, just off. Unfortunately I never drove an XE or XF with RWD only. And the company made a big mistake cancelling the V6 petrols, effectively taking themselves out of the premium segment. Always want to like Jaguar but ... :-(

They can seat 4 adults in comfort, so that’s says space to me. The 300bhp petrol does 0-60 in 5.5 seconds and more than double the speed limit. Pretty pacey.
It’s a subtle, restrained design that’s elegant in its simplicity. Pretty graceful one could say.
Not everyone is stuck in the 1950s.

I'd really like to go for one of these in 300bhp guise, when the wife's 430i is due for renewal. I'd love a 340i but 370bhp is a bit ott and the 330i not quite enough. I'm also not 100% on the new 3er as it's very slightly tacky in places. This looks great but not I'd it's cramped in the back.

My father has the 375hp Sport and yes, it is quite cramped in the back. I'd really like to go for one of these in 300bhp guise, when the wife's 430i is due for renewal. Here’s a new gap in the market for BMW someone who thinks the 340i is too powerful and the 330i not enough, they just don’t cater for us all now do they I'd really like to go for one of these in 300bhp guise, when the wife's 430i is due for renewal. The standard XE really doesn't knock the BMW into a cocked hat at all.I am biased, and even though my P8 shares very few parts with a regular XE, I have driven plenty of different XE variants and for a driver focused small saloon, it knocks the BMW in to a cocked hat.

The BMW was ahead of the XE, for me, on the ICE interface (but behind on sound), the gearbox is better integrated on the BMW, and that was it. XE is cramped in the back but so is a 3, and a C-class.
I've always had a thing for Jag's, I'd certainly have one of these over a 3 series or A4 given the choice.
That said, on the looks front, while I really like the front end styling of the XE I find the rest of it quite nondescript. It's all clean and tidy looking, inoffensive but not that different or interesting, a bit VAG. Jag's of yesteryear just seemed to have a bit more identity.

When is a car journalist going to man up and point out that placing a full touch screen to control the climate control is a very very stupid idea. Especially in JLR's application where the electronics are so buggy, its a joke. It is the same thing when journalists fawn over any Land Rover product, but completely ignore the elephant in the room that is absolutely shocking reliability.
There are rotary dial controls for the climate control! Ian Callum said he wanted them, for exactly the the ease-of-use reason. As for reliability, it's obviously a known issue, but we have to report on cars as we find them on the drive - and there weren't any problems. As you would for from a new car...Cheers,

Some bizarre comments to this thread. Why is Alfa even getting mentioned? Nobody buys them - I cant remember the last time I saw one on the road. Why do most people buy a Jag? Because they don't want to look like every other sheep in a (I own the road) BMW or Audi. And why are we moaning about no manual gear box? Who would want one of those in 2019 when a modern autobox is as much fun in manual mode with flappy paddles and way better when stuck in stop start traffic on the evening commute.
Agree the engine line up is not good enough. The 3.0D should have a home in XE as should a 6 or 8 cyl petrol halo R model.

Compare the size of the big 3 German OEMs to JLR, then compare the sales of the equivalent models. There's your answer. Financial outlay for all those variants just doesn't stack up. A proper performance version would be nice though.Where's the hybrid?

If they want to compete with BMW, Audi and Mercedes, they need to have a range that's suitable.
