RE: Aston Martin DBS Superleggera Volante unveiled

Makes sense... saw your other comment about previews - oddly I was invited to see the coupe, but not the Volante (which is the one I would buy).
As for saying that reliability is an issue, or that the back seats are pointless, mine’s been without fault and having the seats means it gets far more use that most (couldn’t do school drop off without them).
What I'll say about when I saw the Volante, was it wasn't planned, it was just a surprise that the dealer had in place for Aston customers attending the private event (at a Ferrari dealer as it happens). I wasn't expecting it, but it was most welcome As for saying that reliability is an issue, or that the back seats are pointless, mine’s been without fault and having the seats means it gets far more use that most (couldn’t do school drop off without them).

I know this isn't unique to Aston Martin but how do you make a convertible 2 seater sports car weigh over 2 TONNES . . . .
Ultima will build you an Evo Gtr with equal or greater power weighing 950 Kgs , yeah I know not exactly the same thing but assuming the engine/gearbox/brakes/wheels/suspension etc are similar . . . . more than twice as much ?
I can't see the weight of this listed here. I assume it's a bit heavier than the 1799kg DBS coupe.Ultima will build you an Evo Gtr with equal or greater power weighing 950 Kgs , yeah I know not exactly the same thing but assuming the engine/gearbox/brakes/wheels/suspension etc are similar . . . . more than twice as much ?
Of course Aston could make this car as light as an Ultima, they'd just need to rip out the padded leather seats, the seat heaters, the electric seat motors, the power fold mirrors, the climate control, the power steering, the 1000W stereo, the automatic folding roof mechanism, the airbags, most of the crash protection, the sound deadening, the luggage space, the infotainment system, the emissions control hardware (required for global volume sales), restructure the tub to have high wide sills and a cramped passenger compartment in order to remove the strengthening reinforcements, and doubtless a whole host of other things I can't think of.
Then they'd end up with a stripped out track car and not the super-GT they set out to build
I too thought it was a Jaguar F Type at first glance. Same sense of unnecessary bulk making it highly impracticable for UK roads apart from noisy Kensington posing by certain sorts.
LOVELY shape though hood up or down, but unsure about the messy vents at the top rear of the front wheel arches.
Hope it's reliable too.

I’m not a fan of the styling (too much fussy detailing) but that is subjective.
But it does look massive and weighing in at nearly 2 tonnes is a bit silly for a car with sporting pretensions. However sophisticated the chassis control systems are, eventually the weight will tell.
So, a flawed car then.
...But, sitting behind that long bonnet, with a creamy smooth v12 under your control, I’m guessing most of the flaws will melt away.
The fact that you can take it on a road trip with the wife and kids on board thereby avoiding the need to drive a dull SUV is also a major draw.
I’d not choose one myself but completely understand why others would.

I worry that you will for a very close and expensive relationship with your local dealer, forever trying to solve those little issues that plague Astons. A lovely looking car, with an epic sound track, but I would not part with thats sort of money knowing what pain lies ahead.
Seriously? Had my old boat 5 years now. 3 issues - all under £300 to fix (and yes a blob of invisible blu tack needed on the sun visor mirror cover rattle - that's character ) . And its a NA V12 that rises the hairs on my arms (& chest CMoose LOL) and she's a stunning supermodel! #FanBoiLove this DBS but OMG the cost?! Its a DB11 Volante with a remap and go-faster carbon bits!

And also people repeating cliches that may or may not be anecdotal
My Maserati was more reliable than my 911 for example
My R8 has cost me more in maintenance than any of my other cars so far and I've only had it 6 months, and that's an Audi
I have to concur! My TVR was very reliable commuting for 5 years - as long as you had a spare throttle cable! My Maserati was more reliable than my 911 for example

My 16 yr old Ariston combi boiler beats my posh Worcester Bosch boiler half its age for reliability - absolutely hands down - different league!
My Aston (40,000 miles and 5 years) is super reliable - 3 minor issues only. But yes its stereotypically half Jag (despite being VH platform) and a Transit van head gasket with Volvo seat heating buttons LOL - keep up and move with the times people Its none of that!

I wish they'd use better colours on their press cars. White is a horrible colour to show off a car unless for practical reasons in the middle east.
Despite the white it looks pretty damn good though I can't help but think the back end looks a bit Porchey/Panamerican.
It's possibly White Stone, which looks fantastic in the right light (think of it as a Morning Frost White V2 perhaps). But on a dull day, it comes across quite flat.Despite the white it looks pretty damn good though I can't help but think the back end looks a bit Porchey/Panamerican.

Some people find the need to be critical but have never owned an Aston so it is easier to say on a public forum they will never own one because they are unreliable whereas they simply can't afford to buy one.
Condescending, speculative nonsense.I bought two and had no end of issues so won't by another
Exterior looks very good, expecially with closed roof. Strange "hinge" in the back when the roof is open.....but ok, have to see it in the flesh. Are there already private viewings outside the UK now?
The configurator is now online also, see here: https://www.astonmartin.com/en-us/models/dbs-super...
Very happy to see the standard wheels (rims) are much nicer imho than on the Coupe!
Several other new options also.
Pity it still has the "classic" auto box with torque convertor and the "old" DB11 interior............in this price range, Bentley (GTC) and Mercedes (S63/S65) do better imnho.
Let's wait and see for MY 2020/21.
