My XJ8 looked nice until the engine blew up! I would go for the previous generation in preference now.

The 3.2 wasn't tough but the 4.0 is pretty good. For reliability, I went with the XJR

That 166 is in an incredibly (incredibly) rare colour that apparently changes during different lighting conditions. Love. One for the Mercedes specialists, saw a pretty new E class on the motorway today that was badged on the back as a 350E, I thought the method of number then letter was years ago (500Sl 190E etc) but have they changed this now and gone back to their old ways? Or is this someone simply re-badging..

Thanks all on the G-Wagen approval. I've just looked up the cost of road tax. Oops. Least of my worries, I suppose.

That 450 SEL must be dodge...
Congrats on the G - the engine’s characteristics really suit it, but as you said the aerodynamics start taking their toll when it gets to higher speeds.

I didn’t see you requesting tyre advice, but my GL rolls on MO spec P Zero summer tyres and similar spec Pirelli Scorpions for winter. They last well and I’m happy with performance - it’s not something to throw around but, rather like a 124, can surprise some people on occasions.

BOOM! Bits of engine everywhere. Managed to coast to some parking, mechanic picked it up later and it was declared dead on arrival. No idea beyond that as I was irritated and out of the country!

Glorious. 6 cylinder manual with lashings of kit. I wish mine had the rear sunblind. https://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C1168712

Edit, better pictures to perv over here. Jealous of the orthopaedic passenger seat: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1995-Mercedes-Benz-W124...

We were on fire in Volume 2.
I think that was the one where several of us went crazy for Saab, bought 9-5 aeros at rock bottom prices then bailed out again pretty quickly.

Someone else can do that analysis! I joined the fold on page 1 of volume 5 with my first W124 (and first barge): https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...

Don’t talk to me about failure to proceed, the ignition barrel in my 190 has started playing silly buggers and is on the cusp of leaving me stranded somewhere. I’m spending a lot of time parking such that a low loader could recover me if necessary; it doesn’t help ones anxiety levels. New barrel I order from MB, it can’t come soon enough.
So, I tried to stare down the Barge Gods, and lost. Failure to Proceed v2.0.

Ignition barrel completely locked despite all manner of jiggling, twisting swearing and tantrumming. After half an hour I resort to the last bastion of the frayed nerve; the internet. A few minutes of this video and using the "twisting pressure, wiggle and withdraw" technique had the old girl running again. I've abandoned her in the shed with the key still in the 'on position' with a new coded barrel on order (Plan A). Fingers crossed its straight forward from here as having to drill the mechanism out (Plan B) is an expensive nightmare.

The twist, wiggle and withdraw technique is so effective, I'm considering utilising it in other aspects of my life.

Ooo, a manual 6 cylinder W124 is a rare thing!

Some years ago a mate of mine had a manual W202 C280 Elegance that was just fantastic - which convinced me to buy a W202 C280 Sport auto that turned out to be a massive disappointment. frown

Still I've got a manual BMW E90 330i as my daily at present, and it's great.

Cheers! Had a look at your posting history for most of my answers. Have you posted any interior shots of it?

Really liking it and the black older version that gets posted here!

I can't upload the picture but it's a green S124. Pricey vee-hickle, but there's a wonderful driveway, a thread-garage, and anyone that describes himself as Mr Muirhead has to be a decent sort; none of that presumptious familiarity for that seller and I rather like it.
£5800 having sunk £4k into it. Seems a good deal and a lovely colour combo. If it had the 7 seat option...

Small engine E220 W124 is a late model in Nouveau White which is an acquired taste, but at £3.5k, look at how clean it is!

That is utterly delicious. I know it's easy to say, and I know that we're no strangers to hyperbole in general, but if I weren't 6000km away I'd be viewing that this weekend with a stuffed brown envelope in my pocket. That is a wonderful car and worth the 4 grand asking for the velour alone.

I'd love that as a companion to the SLC.

I'll sell you a green 7 seat example.... hold out your hand!

That Spanish e280 looks fab doesn't it? Has anyone driven a manual w124? We had a 123 manual (4speed) for 21 years which was perfectly good.

Sacco MB porn at its best and pure fruitcake specification. Especially considering that W210 order books were probably open in March 95. Amazing how stirring your own cogs changes the familiar M104 W124 driving experience.
