RE: Lotus Carlton | Spotted

This is a stupid asking price. A 1993 Opel version out here in Switzerland is CHF 69,800.00 or 55,000GBP!!

WTF! £150k !!!!!!It’s an icon, sure, but that’s beyond insane.
Wishful thinking on the price of the Impreza too. £21k?
I think it was Woofly from Performance Car mag who got the best set of figures I saw.
He loved the GSi 24V long-termer and nominated the Lotus for PCOTY that year.
He managed to turn in a 60 in 4.8 ( this was before the RS2 Audi arrived and I think only the Minker could get near that 60 time in 91 ) and then went on to hit the ton mark in 10.6.
The tagline made me smile "the Millenium Falcon of saloon cars"

Yep, March 1991 issue, here is a copy of the page with the recorded figures. Times recorded with full 75 ltr tank of juice and two people so pretty decent for "back in the the day".He loved the GSi 24V long-termer and nominated the Lotus for PCOTY that year.

Two questions:
How are there only 68 left? Who the hell is scrapping these?!?
There are over 200 but 68 on the road last data dump from DVLA - it was a pretty rubbish claim in a magazine that should know betterHow are there only 68 left? Who the hell is scrapping these?!?

And why would anyone pay £95k for a new M5 when you could have one of these?
I’d have the M5 - but it’s an itch I want to scratch one day anyway and I’ve had an LC for 20 years sideways man said:

From memory, some service items were difficult to source on these, which led to them being laid up for extended periods. I’d guess they aren’t actually scrapped, just off the road. SweptVolume said:
Always a favourite of mine, I remember when higher mileage (though not stupidly so) were going for £20k.
Something to ponder, though; are there any more around this price? I knew that £40-£50 was more on the money these days, but could this just be a long-term owner who's decided they're possibly willing to let it go if it effectively (when inflation is taken into consideration) hasn't lost a penny? Unless it sells for this money, the price is irrelevant.
Pretty much that ^ I reckon mine is worth around £35 - £40 K max - and I need to spend a chunk of coin on paint before I sell it as no one will buy a scruffy but mechanically and structurally sound one - they all want garage queens for show and shine and I don’t do thatSomething to ponder, though; are there any more around this price? A question I usually ask, would you as someone that's well placed to judge them, pay £95k for one today?
Avg £40-£45
Scruffy £35-£40
Barn Find - as cheap as you can get because it was stuck in the barn because it was broken - no other reason
