As Maclemore so eloquently stated: One man's trash is another man's treasure.

Not a chance I'd part with £95k for this, without the guarantee that it'd be worth 10% more the following year. Even then.

You’re not sure you would take a years free motoring and a guaranteed 10% return?

This is a stupid asking price. A 1993 Opel version out here in Switzerland is CHF 69,800.00 or 55,000GBP!!

Two questions:

How are there only 68 left? Who the hell is scrapping these?!?

And why would anyone pay £95k for a new M5 when you could have one of these?

If the owner of this sees this thread, he might just get the T-Cut out this weekend...hehe

That’s just sad. ☹️

If I walked past that I’d give them a knock and offer them a cheeky couple of grand.

WTF! £150k !!!!!!

It’s an icon, sure, but that’s beyond insane.
You're selling a car for £150,000 and can't even be bothered to fill in all the car's details.

Wishful thinking on the price of the Impreza too. £21k? biglaughbiglaugh

Seems almost quaint the outrage at the performance, its still a fast car but things really have moved on.

Performance figures are sort of around middling hot hatch nowadays, early 13 sec quarter mile, 5 ish to sixty.

I think it was Woofly from Performance Car mag who got the best set of figures I saw.

He loved the GSi 24V long-termer and nominated the Lotus for PCOTY that year.

He managed to turn in a 60 in 4.8 ( this was before the RS2 Audi arrived and I think only the Minker could get near that 60 time in 91 ) and then went on to hit the ton mark in 10.6.

The tagline made me smile "the Millenium Falcon of saloon cars" smile

From memory, some service items were difficult to source on these, which led to them being laid up for extended periods. I’d guess they aren’t actually scrapped, just off the road.

Yep, March 1991 issue, here is a copy of the page with the recorded figures. Times recorded with full 75 ltr tank of juice and two people so pretty decent for "back in the the day".

I love that so much. I hovered over "finance this car" for too long.

Yes it is a lot of money but at least you get heated leather, air con & sunroof all wrapped up in a pretty quick legend of a barge!

There are over 200 but 68 on the road last data dump from DVLA - it was a pretty rubbish claim in a magazine that should know better

I’d have the M5 - but it’s an itch I want to scratch one day anyway and I’ve had an LC for 20 years biggrin

Sorry fella - that myth is well past it’s sell by date - I will admit that it’s utterly pointless asking Vauxhall or Lotus for parts but go find the best owners club for these cars (Autobahnstormers) and you’ll find pretty much everything you need is available from club members or specialists like BTB exhausts

A question I usually ask, would you as someone that's well placed to judge them, pay £95k for one today?

Always a favourite of mine, I remember when higher mileage (though not stupidly so) were going for £20k.

Something to ponder, though; are there any more around this price? I knew that £40-£50 was more on the money these days, but could this just be a long-term owner who's decided they're possibly willing to let it go if it effectively (when inflation is taken into consideration) hasn't lost a penny? Unless it sells for this money, the price is irrelevant.
Pretty much that ^ I reckon mine is worth around £35 - £40 K max - and I need to spend a chunk of coin on paint before I sell it as no one will buy a scruffy but mechanically and structurally sound one - they all want garage queens for show and shine and I don’t do that

Mint £45-£50
Avg £40-£45
Scruffy £35-£40
Barn Find - as cheap as you can get because it was stuck in the barn because it was broken - no other reason

Thanks for the update on spares. That’s good news indeed for owners.

No probs at all - one day I should do a list on my thread of what’s available it’s frankly amazing what club members and specialists in the cars have managed to produce - for a long while a smashed bumper was enough to write one off but now a specialist has the original moulds for all of the fibreglass body kit and bumpers and is making them to order - the only real troublesome parts is probably timing chain tensioners but I’d be very surprised if many LC’s haven’t had chains and tensioners done at some stage in their life.....
