I feel sure MC could return as a stand alone publication now that the worse of Covid has passed. You only have to look at the current prices of many popular 1990s and 2000s modern classics to see that there is huge interest out there for this era of car. I think its dawned on many petrolheads that the period around the millenium in particular was a nadir for cars which were modern in feel and reliability but analogue enough and road biased enough to provide rewarding motoring on our roads. BMW E39/E46 M cars are still probably the best in the last 30 years, Hondas Accord, Integra and breadvan Type Rs, Mitsubishi EVO 6, Impreza RB5/P1, Peugeot 306 GTI/Rallye, Renault Clio Williams/172 and182, Ford Focus MK1 RS. The list is endless. Please come back soon MC!

May not necessarily be a one off, but as the name implies, a special edition.

I think this is the way forward for them. They've done articles on just about every car you can think of that qualifies as an affordable modern classic, some of them twice over. Not really therefore much point in continuing to do a monthly mag.

But they've built up a big fanbase. And off the back of that, hopefully, they can sporadically release special editions like this one. Even twice a year would be good, and then no editorial deadline pressure, and doable from a much smaller team.

I hope they do, as apart from the now defunct Jalopy and Slow Car, it is my favourite ever car magazine.

Anyone who’s been a fan of Modern Classics Should give Rush car magazine a google. Sadly they don’t publish very often, but lots of affordable real world cars both old and new

That just looks like a re-publish of old features, looking at the cover photos

Saw someone recommed this not long ago and had a look. Great content in the 3 episodes so far but it appears there is no actual paper copy to buy which would have been nice also.

But yes, the content is as good as Modern Classics for sure!

I was about to go to the garage and check my old issues as I thought that I had seen those articles too ... shame frown

Just checked the front covers on their back issues from their old app and none with that exact cover on though i know the RUF CTR has been featured in a past issue but not sure if it's the same article write-up.

I really miss this magazine. I've been reading Classic Retro Modern for the last year or so, and whilst it's good, it really isn't the same.

You're right, they've probably covered most of what there is to cover and a periodic edition is probably the way to go.

I believe they still have a monthly contribution in one of the other car magazines but have never gone out of my way to get the magazine. So yes, a special edition every now and then will certainly appeal more.

The 80s supercars has been in an issue before I had it once, I also remember the Lotus Esprit from an old cover.

Ah....won't be surprised. Must admit, I've never had the time to read them cover to cover but had a bad habit of picking up every new copy, regardless of content, to the point on a couple of occasions, I've bought a second copy by accident of one I'd bought previously. I'm sure though that they would have tweaked the article slightly so all good. ;D

That said, i always find them a good reference to return back to on articles i haven't read, usually when I've been to a classic show and need to get more info on what I've come across. Always feel like reading a new copy of the magazine! biggrin

That’s exactly what it is.

Some funny memories coming to the fore - like getting three low slung supercars onto a pavement at 2 in the morning. Then a whole load of onlookers turned up, including a very loud Modified Vauxhall Meriva. Then there was the abject surprise and horror of the C63 Merc-driving weed dealer when everyone turned up, including the old bill, who parked behind his car…

That cover should have been the one on the mag, but we were convinced to put £1000 bargains on the cover as it supposedly had more mass appeal.

It didn’t.

Following the demise of Modern Classics I looked at other magazines and found nothing that filled the void until Classic retro Modern emerged, not quite as good as Modern Classics but good enough for me to take out a subscription on

Just looked at Rush and it looks superb, I'm a luddite so would always prefer a magazine but appreciate this is financially probably not viable

Glad to see this - I hadn't bought mags for years and bought a number of modern classics and was shocked to see they suddenly stopped.

Have tried a few other since and can't get into them. Just liked their style, I will be buying.
