What's required to make this road legal in the UK and how much does that add to the price?
We're going for L6e or L7e quadricycle. L6e will be pretty cheap we hope with just 4kW / 30mph top speed - hence the base spec. It's going to need road tyres, mudguards, indicators, loom upgrade etc, but nothing major. L7e will be max speed >50mph, and you'll need more battery packs and a bigger motor to get more power out. Each pack can put out 4-5kW peak, and you can run up to 4 in parallel. L7e power limit in the UK and EU is 15kW.
We're really going to try and keep it reasonably priced - we want as many of these in the hands of people to enjoy and build a community, rather than disappear off to the Maldives with a suitcase full of cash!

I have an 84v e bike, it came shipped in UK legal form with a little black wire that had a label on it with "do not cut"....if you accidentally cut it the bike would do 50mph. The Twizy with an after market power box has double the torque....maybe make sure your road cars do not have any wires or aftermarket parts that could exceed the UK outputs. (smiley face winky emoji)

I presume there is no way of making this a two seater? Even if it is a small second seat for kids?
We really want to. We might do an optional wide chassis which is a bit less authentic, but allows 2 seats. The space is pretty tight if we stick to the proportions. You'll notice we've already had to lift the roofline a bit....
This is one of those genuinely spooky moments.
Two weeks ago we were discussing "wouldn't it be great if you could make a life size version of our old Tamiya Grasshopper or Hornet?" - eyes popping out my head when I saw this story.
Going to wrap my head in tinfoil to prevent these mindreaders.
Looking forward to painting the inside of the clear bodyshell and fitting a 540 motor.

Hi Ben / team TLCC
Hats off to this project, I suspect it wasn't easy getting sign off on this with Tamiya.
As well as the questions about range, battery etc.. I'd thought I'd put down my thoughts / questions
- 2 seater as previously mentioned, would be a huge bonus
- waterproof pack? whilst less authentic, e.g. a perspex front window would be nice, maybe also like a fabric cover for sides?
- Road legal pack & visual changes - Will wheels need to be covered?
- security features, immobilisers a consideration?
- suspension settings - could it be setup as a more road / track focused machine?
Appreciate costs are a focus though

With a 50mph top speed the Max mentioned so far I don’t think track work is on the cards unless you do a tesla motor battery and motor conversion.
Ben, great to see you responding to comments. Recognise its early days but have you had any discussion with any autograss or off road circuits to have some agreed locations to enjoy? Should be easy to trailer due to the lightness.
I'd be interested in working with anyone on developing plans.
Will you be using the Facebook site to update on the build? I'm sure we will need a customer ideas site as part of the build process.

Hey, yeah with mudguards I wasn't sure if that meant covering the wheel style or something more subtle. With a 50mph top speed the Max mentioned so far I don’t think track work is on the cards unless you do a tesla motor battery and motor conversion.
Agree regarding track work - I meant/intention was something that could be fun & dialed in to drive at legal speeds on appropriate roads. I just re-read and it does look like susp is on of the hopups mentioned so will see in due courae

Beatties! When I was a kid, I used to stare through the window of Beatties with so much want. Sadly, I was never in a position to be able to afford anything in there.
I would then shuffle-off to Forbidden Planet and Comic Showcase........followed by a bowl of wonton soup at the Wong Kei......them was the days!
This was also me.... was like a full super car showroom to me as a kid I would then shuffle-off to Forbidden Planet and Comic Showcase........followed by a bowl of wonton soup at the Wong Kei......them was the days!

All the 'road legal' requests are great and all that, but I worry about ruining the aesthetic with indicators/auxiliary lights/plates etc. I suppose in this day and age of LED options, some fairly small units can be used in some creative way.
Really would increase usability massively, tho.

Just started to “try” to refurb my old Tamiya Porsche 959 when I saw this in my feed. Needless to say deposit paid - I just hope they can make it road legal in the UK for a reasonable price.
Oh, and two seats as my little girl would love it!!!!I have a Pratt built 959 if you get stuck for spares, I would sell everything I have for not too much...pm me if you want it.
