RE: Spectacular Ferrari F50 for sale

Somewhere in the middle is the real enthusiastic owner, like I met and chatted to at the FOC day at Sywell in 2021 ... after he had just done the airfield 'runway speed experience' at full chat. The car really did sound like an old F1 car, apart from the relatively slow gearchanges !

That was me I think. Didn't think I'd changed gear ^that^ slowly, but I certainly didn't fancy wrong slotting it at full chat.. But you're right, some of us just use the car rather than wrap it in cotton wool because of the value. It's really a wonderful, wonderful thing, and should be used. 456mgt said:

Yes, I could tell you were being 'careful with your gear changes if that make sense ! I would too if I was in the same position.
I remember you explaining how expensive the OE gaskets around the cylinder bores were, suffering from "F50 tax", I suspect.
I did the same runway blast in my 812 and clocked around 180 mph before braking far too early......
For a long time I've always preferred the 50 over the 40.
But the main thing for me is the open gated manual plus the F1 derived V12 which just sounds so perfect.
It's not too harsh like the F1 ( which sounds very similar to the S50 it's based on, just X2), not as high pitched as the new small capacity Cosworth V12s..it's just right ! And it's no insanely fast it seems like you could still enjoy abit on the right public roads, in good weather without going silly fast.

I've always loved Ferraris and the F40 and 288 GTO were my favourites for years.
But I've become quite a fan of high revving N/A engines and really prefer the F50 now.
Here's a link to a Chris Harris comparison of the F40 and F50 for anyone interested:- https://www.pistonheads.com/news/ph-chrisharris/ch...

That was/is a lot of money but just look at where the values are now. I’d take my time machine back just a little further to hoover up Apple and Amazon shares to make sure I could pick both up AND have enough for both an LFA and Carrera GT
One of the key reasons it's valued the way it is, is because, over the years, people (those who have driven it) have realised the F50 is one of the greatest drivers cars of all time - more exciting/involving/[insert positive adjective here] than almost anything else ever made, including the LaFerrari/Enzo/288 and the most controversially, the F40.
The F40 really is a one trick pony about booooost. The F50 is just so much better to drive.
Sure, it helps they made 349, but it's peak Ferrari to drive - Driving it is/was one the great driving experiences I've ever had. Wonderful machine.
They need to do a group test: new GMA T50, Mclaren F1, Ferrari F50, Porsche Carrera GT....
