Maybe the basic model won't have the silly digital stuff.

I want a cheerfully basic, easy to fix car not a starship hehe

Really like the look of this and would even quite like one… …but…. ….but…. They are driven by numpties here in Italy, the kind of people who bully other road users because they think they have an SUV. Most odd.
Funny how perceptions change in different countries.

Over here you're much more likely to be the bullied. They must be slower and smaller than the average car sold here and I think the image from the general public is they're bought by the poor, retired, scrooge types who must be overtaken.

This looks good and if they can make sure it's reliable it will be very attractive. I wonder though, how much it's going to cost. We have a Sandero which is used as a shopping trolley/run around and even for longer journeys it has proved to be very good so far , certainly equal to cars costing much more.

yep, they get marked down due to lack of nannying electronics- lane assist etc. Occupant protection is fine.

Basically the stuff that everyone hates and turns off every single time they get in the car. But people only see the headline NCAP rating so assume they are unsafe in a crash.

Yep, they're fundementally sound cars, but they don't have auto braking or lane assist (probally because they don't offer adaptive cruise) which automatically marks them down to a 2 or 3, it's nothing to do with how they perform in an impact. I think the Jogger is a 1 for the same reason.

I like the idea or washable seats, I can't quite imagine what 'an intense driving experience' is though.

I remember when the Grande Punto was released it was one of the first small cars to get a 5 star ncap rating, when it was retested some years later after a few facelifts it scored 1 star despite having exactly the same safety features. Ncap is an ok guide but deeply flawed.

I believe this new Duster has lane keep assist, emergency auto braking, and driver attention alert. Not quite as simple and minimalist as you might hope. And of course, that will impact the price.

Just break it down. Occupant protection is good and would be 5 stars just a couple of years ago.

Personally couldn't care less that it doesn't bing and bong at me everytime I stray near a white line or it think it needs to brake for me.

It's a decent enough looking thing, I suspect with less chintzy wheels it'd probably look a bit better (IMO).

The only thing I'd say, and this might be an odd opinion. It's styling is dangerously close to looking like all the other SUVs out there. The original Duster was cheap, and looked more utilitarian for it. Which suited the no frills and price bracket. I didn't think it looked cheap but maybe a bit more purposeful. This looks much more typical of an SUV although it's likely much better on the road.

A 1.0 ltr 3 cylinder 4x4 will be a hard sell. Glad I ordered the current 4x4 1.2 TCE 150hp model...

I like it a lot, will they offer in olive green or sand with steel wheels instead of those diamond cut things that are a pain to refurb?

As for competition I don't know, someone already mentioned this is a poor mans XC40 (though cooler), also the Jeep Avenger is a similar looking thing but all electric so that must be on the cards for the Duster at some point.

Will engines be as gutless as before or will hybrid power perk up the torque?

Very smart indeed,

I had a new auto Duster two years ago and was very pleased with it.

Try one.

My 2016 Mustang GT had a rating of 2 or 3. Totally due to the Euro model not having all the aids that the Yank cars got.
