RE: Mercedes-AMG turns new E53 into plug-in hybrid
Discussion
I think as a daily driver which offers the odd bit of fun but won’t see the track it’s probably a good option.
My wife took a PHEV 330e lease and while not remotely sporty to drive it’s a fantastic daily that would make me seriously consider this as our do it all family car.
If you could get a real world 45-50miles of Electric range it would be perfect.
Do like the looks and interior overall but the rear gives me Kia Stinger vibes. Thankfully the Kia is a good looking car I think.

Audi is having no trouble shifting RS6s at 120k plus a few options.
With this baby version doing 0-60 in 3.7 seconds in estate guise, how on earth are they going to get a noticeable jump out of the E63.
They are not shifting tonnes of s6’s at £120k plus options, which is the direct rival of the E53. RS6 is a E63 rival not an E53.With this baby version doing 0-60 in 3.7 seconds in estate guise, how on earth are they going to get a noticeable jump out of the E63.

Cars like this used to make excellent used purchases in 5+ years time when they've done the heaviest depreciation.. I'm not sure I'd want to own something with this much technology out of warranty.
Indeed so. Back in the good old days when money was tight it was never a concern to buy an older 5 Series or E-Class from a maintenance or repair aspect. The only criteria was the condition and spec of the car. Dapster said:
You mean when did the Germans in general switch from horrific, plastic fake wood, nasty leather, nasty little plastic buttons and fake plastic chrome to composite/an, sports bar TVs and stripper club LEDs for their preferred punters? Around the same time as speedboats and caravans went from fake plastic wood to stripper lighting and bits of composite so that would be around the time of the invention of the 7 star hotel in third world concrete st tips and dedicated sex pond finance products. Wonga launched in 2006 so best guess would be some time around then?I nearly choked on my cornflakes this morning when I read Top Gear's report on their new long-term Cayenne S. The interior on that is apparently dull because it lacks LED mood lighting like BMW/Merc etc.
All I can say, looking at the absolute state of this E53 interior, is thank goodness Porsche still has some taste.

It does show that many people absolutely fking love Spearmint Rhino decor!!!All I can say, looking at the absolute state of this E53 interior, is thank goodness Porsche still has some taste.
It is interesting how Porsche now stand out quite a bit from the other premium German brands in this regard. I find modern Porsche cabins nice places to be sitting.

I'm guessing you've not been to a "Northern mill town", unless you think the UK ends in Essex.
Last time I was in one, I saw someone struggling to park a Lamborghini Urus in a terraced back street.DonkeyApple said:

The comparison serves better to illustrate the restraint (save for reliably awful wood - and there was indeed timber somewhere within all that resin) and material quality - my experience with a W126 suggests it was all indestructible, if not particularly tactile (easily fixed by ordering velour...) or imaginative. Why MB insist on "full Christmas tree" interior publicity shots is beyond me; IRL their modern interiors are a bit of a magpie's nest, but nothing like the eastern european disco pictured above.

The S6 is a 75k car. We are asking who is going to buy 150k E63s and M5s when they arrive. Well, the same people who are buying RS6s in their droves. Though i think Mercedes might get a shock if they do put a 6 cylinder in theirs.
