I remember viewing concept cars just like this when I was reading Autocar magazines at the library as a kid in the early 90's. Based upon that fact alone, I can't say we've made giant strides in the design of the car!

Another good barometer is comparing older cars in a lesser developed country with the modern equivalent in a modern developed country. The change is barely negligible.

If it is the new 8, they van easily start below the M3/M4. M8 is a different matter.

Yes, I think it's only you. An evolution of this, on the other hand, makes far more sense...

It looks too dated for me.

Maybe with "more grill", different paint etc it might look a bit more up-to-date, but on these pictures, not great.

We've gone from criticising cars that have become 'all grill' in a modern design losing old-class design elegance, to now saying something without a large grill looks dated.

I see what you mean with 6-series. I think the grille and jumps behind the seats drew my mind to the i8.

Ah, so you are what BMW has been targeting with the recent designs. I knew there had to be someone that likes them.

It's a sign of my aging I think, but the idea that a car looking up to date being a good thing isn't a given to me.

Yes, it is going to leak. All targa tops do when they are old.
