Neil, I came across exactly the same predicament as you with the tail. I initially took the easy route by sticking a couple of hella ring units in but decided it was too "normal". I'm reworking the whole design at the moment and am playing with patterns of smaller lights, using the pattern rather than the actual light to make it a bit more unique and considering a perspex cover to give it a "unit" look.
Might be wrong Davi, but thought that light covers need to be E-marked to pass SVA these days.
you're not wrong, but there is a place in Australia that will mould E marked custom light covers at a price which frankly I struggle to believe (as I don't think I could get the perspex for what they are quoting for a finished item!)

Either that or it'll go into the SVA without any light covers in place and then magically they'll appear shortly afterwards wink

Hello all… I was not able to do much this weekend on the project but I did make a new career change and will be working in the Hi Tech Performance Industry so that should be fun.

Anyway… does anyone know of a good source that makes brackets that can lift the entire front clip of the car? I need something that will pop up first and then flip forward. I may have to make my own but thought I would ask first.

Thanks,

- Neal

I think the main issue with this and from speaking with a few true auto designers. Is that the designers usually have no clue where everything mechanical is going to go on the car. They design the car based on current trends and marketing strategies. Then they try to stuff all the machines in and alter the design to fit and work with the latest machining processes.
The designers tend to have experience of where things are going to have to go. Stylists on the other hand tend to work in clay and wood rather than metal, with little thought to the nitty gritty.

The joy of the designer/engineer is trying to turn the big pottery model into something that can be manufactured economically. Unfortunately the end results can often be a long way from the original styling buck.

What about old BMW 3/5 series - a very simple but effective solution and if I'm remembering my old one correctly, should be very easy to modify to suit position and fit.

Hey thanks Davi,

Yeah I tried all sorts of lights… I think I am going to stick with the custom Hella lights. They are smaller and allow for more mounting configurations and adjustments. Now if I can just figure out the side windows and hood hinge setup I will be ready for the next step.

PS. If anyone needs any new real nice BMW E34 headlights let me know.

Hello everyone,

It’s been a while since I posted an update… I have most of the body designed and sculpted in a rough form. Right now I am testing fitting all the little stuff like Headlight, Tail Lights, door handles, Windshield, Hard Top and interior components such as the dash, gauges and seating.

Once I get all this too my satisfaction I will move on to coating the whole form with body filler and start working the final shape for the mold process.

I have a Hard top and windshield frame molded already that I will be making a lot more modifications too. So far the progress is moving pretty fast.

Oh… one thing if anyone has a good source for Round Modern LED tail lights please let me know. I am looking for something that resembles Lotus Elise taillights. I could use Lotus taillights but they are just way too expensive.

I have attaches more images below. Let me know your thoughts.

Thanks guys,

The windscreen is from a 2002 Miata. So is the hard top… although it’s been modified and will modded more when I add the two roof humps to it for a little more head room.

Glad to help Davi,

Hey does anyone know if actually having side pipes are legal or not. Or does this even apply to custom cars. I am trying to provide the option of having side pipes and or exhaust out the back but not at the same time.

Thanks,

Have a look on his website, looks like a complete redesign of the front end, which in my opinion, looks far better!

Gorgeous looking motor, and if you can make it affordable and practical, I think you are on to a winner!

Love the video showing how it was made.

So it made SEMA this year. Any idea on prices? Also, has it driven under its own steam yet?
