That's the curved ///M badge from the back of a Z4M (IIRC, the only M car that has an M badge with no model designation).

My wife's 3-series diesel is an 'M Sport' version and despite being ludicrously over-appointed with M badges (4 on the wheels, 2 on the kickplates, one on the steering wheel, one on the gear stick) it doesn't have one on the back.

Badge says 'M' not 'M3" just means they've bolted on some M parts.
Maybe thats his name. Mark, Matt, err...something beginning with M.
Mutt...?
Afraid not! Whaddya reckon, an M3 badge on the back of my Clio 197? hehe
I've seen a clio M3 before, and a Fiesta M3

Both were hilarious!

What I also find amusing is any derv with a halfords turbo badge on
Someone near here has a Type R badge. On their Corolla GS.
I've posted this elsewhere but I saw a Fiesta GTR on the way to work a few weeks ago rofl

And I'm going to have to have a chat with the chap at work who owns the "M5"

I don't see anything wrong with it, he probbably had an M3 in the past and sold it, it only has an M badge after all, which I think is optional on these cars.

This one doesnt have an m3 badge on it though.

Compared to some of the dross that is seen on this forum, i think you're all over reacting to what is an M3 reg on a car with an M badge on the back. In no other way has he tried to make it look like an M3.

If this was some 1.2 corsa with a VXR reg it wouldnt get a mention, but because its a BMW, then and i quote 'wait for him to come back, kick him in the face, then vomit on him' - actually that was from a man who drives an MG ZR - which correct me if i'm wrong is a 1.4 Rover 200 with some MG badges on?

Does it really feckin matter!!!

Jeez.....there were times when I aspired to be an M3/RS4 owner....I've been fortunate enough to make that choice....

Maybe there are some people out there who can't but would love to...

Leave em alone....cos I'm sure at one point we were on there at some point...

You're right, in the grand scheme of things, it doesn't matter one iota. However, pretending to have something you do not have is, for the sole purpose of making others believe you have it, in my opinion, quite sad and is different to say styling your car in an RS/S-line/M/AMG way.

Nope. I had a 4.2 Cerbera -- didn't badge it as a 4.5. And a Subaru Impreza Turbo (UK) -- didn't badge it as an STi. And a CLK 320 -- didn't badge it as an AMG CLK55. And a Saab 900 -- didn't badge it as a Turbo, etc. Right back to my Mk 1 Astra 1.6 L, which I didn't badge as a GTE.

Eh? Do you not get the entire point of this website at all?????!! It DOES matter, not massively so, but at least to the extent that we can all take the piss out of this sad wr. I fking detest BMW's personally, but even I'm offended by this....

Can't believe the sgging the owner of the car is getting, bottom line is it's a nice car, and an expensive one at that (a nicer/better car than those owned by many of the people sgging the owner off), it's not a 318i badged as an M3, its a 330i M-Sport FFS, so it's an 'M' car of sorts with some 'M' parts. It doesn't have the back catalogue of Halfords attached, it has one tiny badge and a plate with a different font. Who's to say that the car wasn't badged like that when he bought it? So the font on the plate is illegal, but it's not terrible. An as for the assumptions that the driver isn't disabled because they're not driving an automatic Micra rolleyes

One poster states that another doesn't 'get' the point of this website, seems like these days it's to sg off as many other motorists/cars as possible.

My car had a small M badge too when I bought it, it's not an M car and none of the M Sport cars come from the factory with one so I took it off. It doesn't fool anyone with an iota of knowledge about these cars and many people, including those outside this forum, think less of the owner because of it. So why pretend?

Interesting views! I am actually quite surprised @ the venom in some of the posts. However, personally had it been a 316/318 for example, I'd agree with some of the comments, it's just a shame the owner isn't proud of what is a decent standard car (even if it is a derv laugh)

Hey ho though, there's more important matters in the motoring world to worry my little cotton socks about smile

I just find it amusing that a grown man would have a plate like that on a car that's clearly not what the plate says it is. I actually feel a bit sorry for him.

I think most people dont like being deceived - be it with cars or any where else. Would we like to be meet some bloke down the pub who claims to be an international playboy or premier league footballer? Although its not actually hurting anyone, its not the truth either - the same goes for cars too. Contrary to what anyone says, they are status symbols and we do judge ourselves against them. For some its more important than others, but that's a personality thing rather than anything else.

So, to pass off your car as something that it is not is a form of deceit. Its not really that bad, but they have clearly done something like this to conceal what it really is - passing off a 330i as an M3 isn't the biggest crime of the century, but the owner clearly wants to associate himself with the M3 rather than the 330i for a number of reasons. Quite what those are we don't know, but it is a conscious attempt to position themselves as something that they are not....

For someone who is utterly sad, I can spot them a mile off. For me, it has the reverse effect anyway - these people make themselves appear much more stupid that they can quite possibly consider. Now, sticking a 318i badge on the back of an M3 CSL is genius though (as has been done by a PH'er before). It is quite clearly something significantly better than a 318i and inversely mocks the idiots who try to stick an M3 badge on their lowly BMW 3-series to pass it off as something else.

I find it funny.

As far as I am concerned this person isnt really trying to pretend the car is something its not. It has an M3 number plate, so what? It has an M-badge, not M3. My mates 328i M Sport Coupe has the same badge on the back (it also has the 328ci badge on as well), and I certainly dont think he's a muppet.

Fair enough though I do think its sad the people who go out and buy / steal badges to put on the back of their car to pretend its something else, Renault Sport badges on the back of everything from Corsas to Jaguar X-Type's are all the rage around here, but the funniest I've seen are the clio with the "172 Cup V6" badge on the back and the old style Kia Rio RS thats knocking around (and in case you're wondering, its the RS badge from a PORSCHE!).

Incidentally, my ITR does not have any "Type-R" badges on it, which is quite funny as although it looks rather unsubtle anyway, still people dont know what it is hehe
