RE: SOTW Special: Mazda MX-5
Discussion
Cracking shed this week. Bought the missus one a few years ago, very similar but in red. Its been written off twice, done 200'000kms but still goes strong and is so much fun.
If I had bought most other cars for the same price (£1300) it would have cost more to run, and be worth next to nothing now.

Not hanging around with this one, it will be scrubbed, spruced, fixed and re- sold ASAP. Hopefully we'll make a nice profit meaning 'Project SOTW' can start buying some rather special metal very soon
£606
Just something to think about.

Oh.. And stay there.
"Steve" doesn't seem to be winning many friends. Odd, as this is a motoring enthusiasts site and he's in the business of selling 'enthusiasts' cars.
Perhaps he's green and lives under bridges, and often seen carrying a large club ...

Have either of you driven one?
Theres always on fan boy MX5's are for girls and poofters END OF.
If people haven't driven them, or driven them properly.. They don't have an opinion
Brilliant little cars. My mate had a version with a turbo kit (180bhp). And my other mate's missus had one of the newer ones.
I'd have considered one to replace my Smart Roadster (a car for which I got plenty of abuse - but loved owning/driving it!). I went for MR2 turbo instead, as I wanted something a bit beefier, but still may go back to the idea of MX5 as a toy someday...
There's always idiots that make "gay" and "hairdresser" comments about these sort of cars (and lets be honest, they're not really manly are they??). But you gotta ask yourself if you really care what others think about you/your car! If you're buying a car as a c**k extension, or to impress your mates at the pub then maybe an MX5 is not the best choice. But if you're a true enthusiast and just enjoy driving then I'd place it near the top of your list.
For the record, I have driven one, and it was brilliant! Great fun, and loads of feedback through the steering. Gearbox wasn't as smooth as the MR2 however...

Whenever I see this colour, I think smurf Not bad for £600, I wonder how much lower the cost of a half-decent Mk1 can go...
I can understand people having an issue with the image and lack of grunt, but if you can't see the fundamental appeal of a small sports car with an engine at the front, driver in the middle, driven wheels at the back and 'proper' suspension at each corner there's something wrong.

Gay, Gay ,Gay Poofter, Hairdressers car, yadda yadda,
Change the record, its so old and boring.
I dont care if anyone thinks I am gay, quite happy to mince along enjoying whatever I am driving, a guy at work has a Nissan Micra CC, he has quite an attractive wife and is a commited lover of ladies, he likes his car and doesnt care, dont know why Gay is such an overused slur on car forums, is it so tragic if someone is gay ?
Do you every think that being hetero, you might have kids (I have three lads) one of them shock horror may be gay, I bet in your little homphobic world you would then wish they had just bought an MX5 or TT instead.
You can get really bravel and manly Gay blokes, you can get weasley little wimpy creepy straight ones, all straight blokes arent ok and all Gay ones arent mincing great queens.
Rant Over, huffs off, in manner of Daffyd off Little Britain.

I bought an S Special last spring and it turned out to be a lemon - it had an intermittent fault that could not be found and I ended up selling it on - for better money than expected.
I do fancy getting another and am torn between a newer mk2.5 which should be trouble free motoring of a sub £1000 machine that I'd not feel guilty about denting, stripping bolts in or fitting second hand parts. Oh, and drilling the air box
Steve

Don't rise to the bait from those posting Hairdresser quips.
This is a car-lovers site.
Those that knock the MX-5 just because of it's image rather than it's brilliance can't be true 'pistonheads' can they?
Let them spend their hard-earned on a badge or huge BHP if it helps them salve their insecurity.

Just a note to concur with those who are dismissing the homo jibes. Me and my ex gf had a red mk 2.5 a few years back and it was amazing (the car, that is - relationship not so much).
Steering and gearbox still the best I've ever had. I've had a 911, Jag XJR, Alpina B3 since then, all with plenty of bhp and excellent cars but none to rival the MX-5 on those two counts. Who gives a c**k what k**bheads who haven't driven one think?
(Sorry, try to avoid bad language on here but this topic really riles me!)
