You're queue jumping. I do it myself and fully understand why people won't let me in. The best idea is to try and subtley merge (M6 south at the A14/M1 junction is a good example, it goes into two lanes at the end of the slip road, ideal)

When cutting in directly in front of someone, I always feel it's poor form to do this with easy targets such as old ladies in Micras. The young thruster with some sort of Bluetooth device is more fair. Always thank post merging and respond politely to V signs and "wker" gestures
Good advice CampDavid. I'll try this rather than give the "birdie" to some bloke who's stupidly and unnecessarily sat in queue for 20 minutes (probably Robatr0n loser)

Learn the highway code if you don't want abuse. Anyway, I don't take the M4, I'll be the guy giving you abuse for unnecessarily stopping me from driving along the lane destined for the A4.

Cock.
Calm down! No one's died. You secretly wish you'd gone down the RHS too right?
Arrogant troll!
I'd say that neatly sums him up. smile

I find this outrageous.... after all you've clearly demonstrated how much smarter you are then those peasants in the correct lane. Not only do they not applaud your show of brilliance but then they won't even let you in! The cheek of it! Next time I recommend that you lower the window and shout "don't you know who I am?" - I'm sure they will then realise the error of their ways and acquiesce at once. They might even take their own miserable lives out of shame!

Or alternatively in the real world you are a selfish prick who not only has sufficent arrogance to think that the rules don't apply to him but still thinks he has the right to whinge about it when people dare to object.

You are a tool of the highest order. I see people like you everyday, I had one woman in a big merc think that indicating means you have to let them in (when doing the same thing as the OP). When I didnt she held out her hand as if to say I'm coming anyway.

BTW I am on a motorbike so I will always get in front of you. If you want to filter get a motorbike, if you want to sit in a traffic jam get a car. But if you do get a car play by the rules. Problem is one day you are bound to cut up the wrong person.

So it's ok for motorbikes to jump the queue but not cars? I think this may just be the most arogant post in an arogant thread.

I don't get the vaste amount of people who will always queue in the left lane when both lanes are equal (though it sounds like this isn't the case here) nor why half the population seems to risk a heart attack if someone jumps in front of them.

Maybe I'm missing something?
He's sat in the queue for a while, in one of the two M4 lanes, because he wants to get onto the M4. Right?

How is this stupid and unnecessary?

You can't all cut in from the A4 lane at the last moment!

For the record, despite all of the anger directed towards me, I was referring to the middle lane which is most certainly for the M4! I leave early but there is still a queue building on the far LHS side which I find just stupid. I see no problem using the lane designated for M4, going to the end and "merging".

I will admit to having some sport with Robartr0n though as it looked like he was about to blow a blood vessel of somethingtongue out - sorry if I wound the rest of you up in the process. Bloody funny though!

Also for the record, I'm entirely with CampDavid....I'm happy to let people in if they've taken the initiative to cut in. It really does make you feel so much calmer if you do that (even if you've queued a long time) and everyone's happy. Try it, it really works. Happy days!

Calm down Robatr0n! Calm down!!!

You obviously have never used two wheels then, have you?
In your eyes it is wrong for a bike to go to the front of the queue at the lights or a level crossing?
It's wrong for them to overtake you in a way that would be impossible in a car?
It's wrong for them to filter through two lines of slow moving/stationary traffic?
Far from arrogant it is what bikes are for and it's only the idiot motorcyclists that sit behind cars in queues,

I must say, I ride a bike too and these are good points. The whole point of a motorbike is to make progress. It's not queue jumping...we're usually off and out of your hair before you know it. Though it's amazing how many car drivers try and tighten the gap between traffic when filtering. This can be quite dangerous sometimes.

Ignoring the arrogance stance for the moment (it's a given in this case anyway) but the manoeuvre is silly and dangerous and clearly you are wanting other drivers to take some form of action to facilitate your barging in.

If the A4 lane is empty, you get to the front and have a fast enough car and get ahead then cut across without endangering other drivers or causing them to take evasive action then, cheeky yes but ultimately harmless.

Or at least take the A4 lane and go round the roundabout all the way (360 as it were) then legitimately take the M4 lane etc.

Or wait.

So, there are a number of options open to you, you decide to take the worst of the lot. You NEED driving lessons. If a policeman caught you, you'd be looking at points and fine (DWDCA, even DD if really pushing in). There's even a forum here http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/forum.asp?h=0&a... to learn all about how to improve your driving (and manners).

It's what they do, I don't see the difference between a bike cutting in where possible and a car. The thing you're queuing for will no doubt require the same space for a bike as a car, a roundabout, a cross roads, a junction etc. All take the same time for a bike to manouver as a car.

Socaially it's frowned uppon for cars to try and cut down a shorter que but fine for bikes. No idea why. I choose to not let these things worry me. Life is way to short to get wound up by the actions of other drivers. As long as no one's doing anything dangerous then I'm all for taking the path of least resistance.

I do hope all those who have resorted to insults will back track.

The British just like to queue, they don't know the rules of the road and so treat those who act in accordance the Highway Code with contempt.

You were asked on a number of occasions which lane you were in which you evaded and were vague about at best, especially in light of the answer being crucial regarding the whole discussion.

However:

redcard
Seems to indicate that you WERE using the A4 lane and not the 2nd M4 lane as you are now saying.

You are now, by the looks of it, changing your story now you realise you were in the wrong and trying to save face. Sorry, but too late.

Not understood by the vast majority of UK drivers unfortunately........

Same as we could never adopt some of the US driving processes

4 way intersections - we have to have traffic lights cos people just wouldn't get them

Left turn on red - absolutely no chance that would work either

Passing on either side on multi lane roads (although that isn't strictly legal in the US either)

confused

I couldn't be calmer. As we both seem to use the same stretch of road on a daily basis, we both know that both lanes sign-posted towards the M4 are full of stationary traffic all the way back to the roundabout. It's very apparant that you, amongst others, drive all the way up the empty outside lane and then cut back in.

Am I annoyed that you would cut infront of me? No, as I already said, I wouldn't use the M4 (and if I did, I wouldn't let you in anyway so no skin off my nose). Am I annoyed that people like you block me from making progress in an otherwise empty lane? Yes because you've stopped me for no reason other than to serve your selfish desire of cutting infront of every poor bugger joining the M4 to save time on your journey.

As I said before (in a perfectly concise and non-angry post), learn the highway code.

hmmm... I'm thinking one of two things happened here, either

1) You are actually using the correct lane and you are having issues with people failing to merge in turn. However since you thought that Robatr0n believed you were talking about the A4 lane that it would be "funny" to wind him up.

-OR-

2) You actually do use the A4 lane and having seen all the flames thrown your way are now trying to backtrack while keeping some dignity.

So you're either an unfunny troll or an arrogant tt who can't admit he is wrong. Personally I think its probably no.2 but either way I'm kind of past caring now.
