Acid test then.. Will Flemke, Mr Bridger etc be buying one?
They are, afterall, the only billionaires in the world with a car addiction You're a billionaire, so you already have a Rocket, an F1, an Enzo, every Caterham iteration ever made, any Lotus you want. So you have the "driving feel" part of your desire covered in any and every way possible. So what you then seek is something different, something quicker, and something challenging in a different way. And that's where this fits in.

I mean't the SLR 722 race edition(Am I just imaging that?)
Ah I didn't know there was such a thing! I know there was an SLR Stirling Moss, which was a roofless/windowless SLR but that's all I remember - could be totally wrong though, I usually am The Milfman said:

I think it would be faster than the Apollo though.

It'd be a whole lot quicker and a much bigger buzz.

Hmm could be...still reckon this will be quicker.
It wouldn't be as quick as a Caparo.I think it would be faster than the Apollo though.
So for those of us not up on our latest Ferrari merchandising catalogues, does the forthcoming GTO mark a road-going version of this? I mean, it's a 599 GTO innit?
I like that Enzo himself used to despise the road car customers who paid for the race team, and now Ferrari's race team is nothing but a brand driver designed to put Ferraris into as many private hands as possible.

I do not understand all this excitement.
Why great technology cannot be nice looking???
This thing is just plain UGLY! Why? They started with an ugly base shape and made an utter mess of it.
This is how Ferraris use to be!!! And there was a brilliant racing version, too. Even if you add all these contemporary spoilers and side-skirts to it the Daytona shape would still be elegant and graceful. It is not a matter of technology underneath.

The size of those brake disks!! if you had the money you would..
Exactly, and I think this is a point often overlooked on threads like this. We're not talking about people that had 1.5m dollars and decided to spend 1.1m of that on the 599 XX.We're talking about billionaires.
It's the equivalent of you and I deciding to spend £10 on a toy.
So, if you could have the 599 XX for £10 - you would, wouldn't you?
But you'd also have a season's racing, a McLaren F1, an Enzo etc. etc. as well.
Ok, I take the point that it's not a road car or a race car; but it makes no apologies for that and, if we're honest, certain track specific cars often get used in much the same scenario, it's just that they have number plates on the front and some other compromises.
The "Ferrari" part of it is a deal-breaker in itself.
If we were to put that to one side, and imagine that this was a McLaren project so that there was an active affinity, still I would struggle to grasp what it would do to buy one.
If you want to experience new things on a race track, and truly to stretch yourself, you go racing. You can do a lot of amateur racing for a million quid.
If you want to be strapped into a device that will put you through extreme physical dynamics, you take up flying, or spend time on roller coasters.
If you're into beautifully-crafted mechanical bits, you buy a slightly older racing car.
If you want a car as an investment, you get something evocative, with provenance.
As others have pointed out, this is just a clever way for Ferrari to make a big margin on a largely sunk cost, and for them to get punters to put mindless hours on vehicles in what are in effect shake-down runs. The idea that Ferrari will be eager to debrief the owners and make use of their insights in order to develop future cars is risible. Okay, maybe the factory people would listen to what colour of instrument lighting the owners prefer, but that's about it.
They are plenty of (rich, in this case) people who want to rub shoulders with some factory racing folks, be invited to a day of 20 of themselves plus Alonso, have a private tour of the works, etc. If that's what turns them on, so be it.

Just a thought about the 'not road legal' aspect,I'm sure to the superwealthy there would be quite a few countries that you could register anything you'd want for the right 'fee' then you could visit anywhere you wanted on holiday!
True, but not many of us would wish to be in such a country in anything but a tank. Well, I won't be buying one this side of finishing an oil reserve under my kitchen sink, but I think it fooking brilliant and hats off to anyone stupid enough to part with their hard earned for it.
