Always thought the smaller bumper versions were classier.
Only 17 months? Crikey, you're a tough customer... Not the same car though, is it? SOTW only 17 months ago:

If not quite groundbreaking, the Mk1 Golf was undeniably a very good car indeed back at its introduction in 1974. It was uncompetetive in all but fashionability by 1993, and even in 1988 it was rather outmoded. I do like them though - they're not my kind of car since I prefer large automatic saloons (my mother had a non-convertible one between '82 and '88 and it was a rattly wheezy uncomfortable thing with an agricultural gearbox) but they do have a sense of style and a certain chuzpah which sets them apart.

BOOO whats wrong witha 205 cti?
Indeed. Though my Dad had one when I was approaching 17, which at the time was valued at about £1500. The best quote he could get to add me to the policy was £4k, which does rather count against them.MrScrot said:

Forget rescung dogs, they are part of nature and can look after themselves, we need to set up a charity to buy and look after classics like these. Oh if I had the cash, I would rescue this and my neughbours. If I had the cahs, I would probably have more vehicles than Jay Leno!
But back OT, great shed and I too have been watching this for a while. I browse the Pistonheads classifieds like looking for Porn, All tempting and attractive, But never going to happen!

I meant we'll forget it existed because it's probably a better drive that the Golf (though I speak from a position of having driven neither)
I have driven both and found the 205 much better to drive. The Golf feels stronger and more solid though.mikEsprit said:

Top shedding...wish my girlfriend had one. (no, not saying it's a girls car, just that I'd like to go out with the kind of girl who would have one)
It was the ubiquitous little rich girl's car back in the 80's. Particularly in white. At least in the US.Riggers said:

overrated much? VAG major turn off. the new ones have a common fault of stones finding thier way into the brake calipers, have fun getting that done on warrenty as 'they all do that, so how would you like to pay the £300 stone removal fee, cash or cheque?
why is just TDI/S-line/GTI drivers who feel 30mph limits dont apply? when you'v had your national speedlimit fun garunteed its the golf driver who blasts past on the wrong side of the road thru a village. as a passenger i notice such things
