This is perfect shedding really. It's all about the memories and I never owned one. However, a mate of mine at Farnborough sixth form owned a silver 2.0 that had been severely tinkered with by his old man, who owned a garage IIRC.

Compared to my little 1100 mini it was, as you'd imagine, a flying machine and we had a lot of fun in it. driving

That car sparked my love of them and it will never wain. cloud9

That said, I'll never own one or the leather bomber jacket that is compulsory equipment! wink

Didn't Aston Martin and Ford produce a Capri together? Tickford I think it was called...

Drove my Dads 1.6L in 1980 - very disappointing, my 1.3 mk2 Escort was so much better

Shouldn't the blue one be in the bad parking thread?

I've had a few in my times, used to love them so much I set up a Capri Owners Club after having a bit of a falling out with the main one.

The list included Mk1 1.3 (yep 0-60 in a few days), Mk1 2.0 V4, Mk1 3000GT with full Cologne kit, MK2 1.6GL, Mk2 2.0 JPS, Mk2 3.0 Ghia, Mk3 2.0 'S', Mk3 2.0 Ghia, Mk3 1.6 L, Mk3 2.3, Mk3 2.8i LHD and god knows how many more in between, that were ragged around then used for spares.

That's some serious camber on those front wheels!

The red Mk 3 in the first ad also has some fairly major rot on the rear arch judging by the photo.

Had a Tickford Turbo 2.8i Capri as the garage runabout back in the day. One of the most nuts cars I've ever driven. What was nice was it was very subtle, the only real difference was it was a little lower, other than that pretty much standard to look at. It sure shocked a few people with it's turn of speed.

My Dad went to buy an Orion at our local dealer & came back having bought a Capri 1.6 laser. I was delighted, as the capri was one of my favourites (my uncle had 3.0s during this time).

Dads laser definately looked the part in its metallic light blue, but unfortunately didn't go or sound like my uncles 3.0s.

I enjoyed having my 2.8i it was one of the later cars an 87-D special with recaro's, LSD, about 150 bhp, low mileage with fsh. That was in 1995 & I wouldnt be surprised if its still going now.
That'd be the Brooklands. Was a special run for the last ever card IIRC.

I like Capris; they may not have great handling or performance but they have vast reserves of chracter, and that is what counts with cars like this.

Yes there was an Aston Martin / Ford collaboration on the Capri - the Tickford Turbo with 205bhp and 260 lb/ft of torque, the body kit isnt to everyones tastes though.

Unfortunately those SOTW Capris are a little more Terry McCann than Bodie & Doyle.

My dear old Nan still drives a Mk3 Capri that she purchased brand new with my late Grandfather. It’s a 2.0 Ghia in metallic gold with beige interior and is still in great condition. She always gets guys asking her if she is willing to sell it, but she never will as she loves that car.

She turned 84 this month and still drives it everywhere like she stole it.

I've got a Mk3 2.0s, with a 2.9 24v slotted in from the granada.

Had a 1.6 a few years back when i was 18, and to be honest it taught me a lot about both driving, and looking after your car properly. Plus, it also showed me the right way to take a roundabout in the wet!lol!

Bought this one after getting rid of the smaller one, but the extra power wasn't enough to really notice, plus it wasn't in fantastic nick so i garaged it, and started pulling it to bits. Was originally going to turbo the pinto lump, but found a granada for £100, so decided to go that way instead.

Has now had suspension, brakes, 3ltr gearbox, wider wheels, half decent tyres, and i'm still fettling. The V6 lump really pulls well if you boot it, and as i've got the 2ltr rear axle on it, it really does like hills!

Granted, the power steering is very poor, she's noisy (Though that might be due to the lack of carpets, and large bore exhaust on mine - something i am remedying at the moment as she's just TOO loud), the heating is non-existent, the rust spreads by the day, and you spend all your time wondering what that funny noise was, i wouldn't be without her - for sheer grin and thrill factor when you push the loud pedal smile

Had a black GTE Exclusive coupe. 2.2 conversion, Volvo four pots, Bilsteins, H&R 40mm drop. Not a bad old smoker all things considered.

Fond memories of Capri, my dad had one from about 73 to 88 when it went to me, mk1 GTXLR 1.6, great fun and how I didnt crash it I dont know, I went to an LS which was a lot more plush and newer but not as quick, then to a MK1 Golf GTi 1600 which was a revalation, sold that, went to work in a America and sold it, come back and my dad had found a mint E reg (late registration I expect) 1600 Laser and it was a nice example but soooo slow and ponderous after the Golf, there really isnt much for the keen drive with the 1.6, only has 75 bhp, the S models and GT's had a bit more, about 90 and were better but fun starts with the 2.0.

I reckon that the Capri is now appreciating, look what happened to all the manky old Escort getting snapped up and now being worth vast sums, people will look elsewhere, ok the Capri didnt have quite the competition pedigree but it is fondly remembered so they will continue appreciating.

I think he means it was the earlier 'Special' special edition, rather than the Brooklands which had the bigger 15" alloys

Not a fan of these. But desireable versions sure hold their prices pretty well.
