RE: Red Victor - A History Of A Very Fast Vauxhall
Discussion
It was good to meet Andy at the weekend. A very down-to-earth person, at the top of his chosen field through his own merit, who deserves the support he is now getting.
I really can't believe some of the posts here. If people are jealous, then get out there and build your own. If you can't be bothered, or don't like the discipline, then keep your own council. I'm sure there's plenty that you do, that others don't like.
Good luck with the plans for RV3.

Thank you very much kind sir and it was a pleasure meeting yourself too.I really can't believe some of the posts here. If people are jealous, then get out there and build your own. I can understand it's not everyones bag and that is fine. Anyone who thinks this isn't real racing is sadly mistaken and has never done it at this level before. There is also only a handful of people who know what it takes to do something at this level..
Please, just read the build thread before posting stupid replies. If you don't like the car then don't post,it's that simple.
Thank you for all the nice and supportive comments so far. Most people realise that what we're doing has never been done before so there is nothing to compare it to.

Yet another great thread that has been ruined with pointless bickering. What is the point?
(and yes, that is a rhetorical question as I'm cancelling my subscription to this thread)
It's "Pistonheads" unfortunately that means certain thread directions are expected.....(and yes, that is a rhetorical question as I'm cancelling my subscription to this thread)
Me like I said earlier I think it's a great project and nice to see the progress continue

With regard to Mallory I bet you didn't enjoy it as much all of us on the banks of the circuit - it was a real treat to see the show you put on.

I would have seen the show myself had the bonnet scoop not been in the way..

Looks like a cracking project. anyone that puts the time and effort in to build a car and compete it, gets my respect.. whatever the disipline.. I do a lot of circuit racing, but I'd fully expect to get my trousers pulled down if I had a go at Drag racing, different skill set, although Im tempted to take the Tuscan racer to the pod on a ryb for some start practice..

Thank you Graham. Your analogy is good. I would fully expect get my trousers pulled down in a circuit race situation as well.Drag racing may look easy to some people, but believe me there is so much more to it with a "pro style" drag race car than most folk could imagine.G
Purely out of curiosity, what went wrong with that engine? Is it possible to tell what the initial point of failure was?
Looking at the piston crowns, it looks like they're completely melted away - which to me suggests that it wasn't a bottom-end failure initially. Did the engine run away somehow?

it was a rod bolt failure if I remember rightly, destroyed everything from the intake manifold down.. Even the turbos had to be machined..Looking at the piston crowns, it looks like they're completely melted away - which to me suggests that it wasn't a bottom-end failure initially. Did the engine run away somehow?

Surely the real story of the car ends after the 5th picture?
Yes - whilst the RV team and project are very interesting, and I guess that the new car is going to wear the same VRM at some point, the story isn't about the original Victor any more, is it? Not to knock the effort, just would have been good to see the original car continue it's reincarnations.I could try until doomsday but it will never run low 6s.high 5's in it's old state. Hence the upgrade. Red victor 2 was a full tube framed chassis anyway so that is being upgraded to a full chrome moly chassis. The floorpan went in 1997...
It is always about the "red victor" line, wether it is 1 or 20. It's about upgrading and modifying till i'm satisfied we've reached the goals we set. This upgrade is what is needed for the particular goals we've set,BUT... it's still a Victor and still part of the Red Victor line.
I'd really appreciate if people wouldn't insult my intelligence and tell me what my own car is or isn't.
Thanks again to PH for making us their car to run the smiley on. It means when we race or go anywhere we're part of the PH massive..
That, as I said, doesn't in any way take away from the effort that's going in to this car. Hope that lot makes sense.

Indeed. That last picture looks like some Glass Fibre shell to drop over a funny car.
Where is the relevence for VXR to be involved in this!? Hardly like it is current or a real race car (i.e. corners and braking).
My hat is off to you sirs.

Hopefully it will be sub 9's 1/4 miles, like mid 6's to start with..
I've been following the build from the start and have been so mesmerised by the whole thing that I have never felt the need to post. However with the desparate news over the weekend I have to agree with so many others that you and the crew have educated us so much that £20 is the least we should give. A ride would be great but just to see you running again would be even better.
