Noooooooooooooo......

Hateful things.

Reliable, yes, but nasty drive. Poor driving position. Hateful ride (only resolved in the last versions). Uses the old Lexus tech, which is naff. Relatively quick, for 1985, but for 2005 they werent that quick - now positively slow. Cramped inside and that wood is pure nastiness.

So no, of the Lexus range, this is the worst by a long stretch. Hateful car, outdated before hit the street and not worth even 7k. Keep your money, go for a Merc instead - much nicer, better engineered and more fun to drive, even if its older and with a smaller engine.

Potential shed in a few years time? Maybe, but there are far too many options and this doesnt need to be one of them.

Is Jewish Racing Gold as racist as it sounds?
No. It only offends people who don't actually know what they're offended by.
BAN PAEDIATRICIANS!

PS: I'd love an old SL. Preferably a 600 in black, for V12-goodness.

This has always been a secret future car for me. They are incredibly good value for money and probably a little more reliable than a BMW/Mercedes and probably cheaper to run too.

I thought that era of Mercedes were stupendously over-engineered. The rot set in later, didn't it?
98 to 03 is generally regarded as the avoid at all costs era
I thought it was more a question of "Models introduced between 98 and 03", rather than "cars built between 98 and 03" though.
yes The R129 is about as bulletproof as Mercedes get.

Have owned an SC for over 4 years now and have no plans to sell it.

There is nothing better for wafting around in quiet luxury than this car.
Effortless refined engine, one of the best interiors, loads of toys, extremely rare and utterly bomb proof. Lexus dealers are a joy!

The car is badly misunderstood by UK journos. It is not designed for throwing round the ring. I use my GTR for that...

To answer the question about using it in the snow it's nearly as bad as a 3 series...

Oddly enough I saw one driving by just the other day in Hamilton Terrace (aka Billionaires' Row) in St John's Wood. It was driven by a lady of a certain age with orange skin and a bad perm.

Target market bullseye.
The collection of cars on Hamilton Terrace is quite interesting, but you need to head up Prince Albert Road for some more exotica.

Also, down Little Venice where the street parked 456GT (anyone on here) results in much chin scratching (the conclusion being that for that money, I would buy a CL65 C215 series and chase Enzo's).

Back to the Lexus, I can only speak for the LS but brilliant brilliant cars and have often thought about the SC430 but the SL...well...it just has that 'something'

The SL does have that something, that blocky look that is soooo 80s. The Lexus, while definately a marmite car, is more modern looking and does not age anywhere near as quick.

If that Lexus rode well I suppose it could be recommended. But it doesn't. So it can't.

Having owned a couple of Lexus IS's , I understand all the good points of the SC430 mentioned in the article. But when it came to spending some money on a big stupidly fuel-inefficient V8, I went for an SL500 and have not been disappointed. I love it smile

Genuinely surprised as some of the reactions to 'Jewish Racing Gold'.

Don't forget German Racing Green (Boston Green on the E36)

Admittedly, the red example posted up looks rather nice but as mentioned, the Merc SL is the superior machine. Proper old skool Merc engineering, elegant styling. Very very nice.

They have the same chassis as the Toyota Aristo/Lexus GS300 from 1997-2005.........

Some with run flat tyres which are pooh................

I've sold uprated suspension to a few customers who reckon barge like handling is transformed ...also Aristo ARB's will fit...........

TOM's do a supercharged one which gets more torque and bhp up to 310 ish from 258

That joke is wearing a bit thin. Will we get "Christian beige" or "Atheist White"?

The car is a bit nothing for me, it seems like a covertible for old people who don't like cars. Or convertibles.
Shouldn't that be "Christian Fundamentalist White"? wink

Lexii have awesome reliability and customer satisfaction reports.
Tragically, most SC owners are partially-sighted, or quite possibly Stevie Wonder-style fall-down-the-stairs BLIND.
Hideous, horrible, horrible things. With the arse of the devil.
It could be a perfectous blend of Rolls Phantom, 458 and Superleggera to drive, but it doesn't matter a jot - when you step out of the thing You Will Be Sick.
People will laugh and point. If you're 50+, have big hair and are orange, or are Dale Winton, you'll be used to people laughing.
If you're normal, it'll upset you. You'll cry. Don't do it.
Go buy 5k's-worth of LS400 and MX5 instead. You'll thank me.
Did I mention the looks? Shallow-minded trend-setting fashionista that I am, I do think the constant vomiting would start to wear a bit thin. And it'll make the beige carpets smell.
PH. Really. Get. A. Grip.

Er...right then. After that lot I recall reports of a very firm ride due to the run flats and they are expensive to replace too.

Florida 'pensioners beige' is probably not the best colour in the World but it's still quite a lot of car for the money.

It's a very common term. It's a take on British Racing Green, with Gold being a stereotypical Jewish colour. It seems to be perfectly accepted over here but in America causes offence, though from what I can make out, only because the word Jewish is featured. None of the implication is thought negative
as a brit, i did wonder 'can he say that?' but i spose its all the damned political correctness were attacked with at every turn creeping out, damn they almost got me there! i do like lexi with any luck the LS400 might be considered elegable for classic insurance hmmm.....

The Silver one in the advert is being sold by a place called Target Cars, based in Eindhoven, NL.

Avoid like the plague.

I went there to look at a couple of TVRs about 18 months ago.

Its a bloody big warehouse on the airport - no reception to speak of, ring a bell and a couple of dodgey looking pikeys appear from out the back.

The warehouse itself is jammed full of all sorts of cars (parked haphazardly and almost on top of each other). Cars are mainly on UK plates, which is a little strange in the middle of NL. You are left to it with no help from anybody and the cars I looked at were mainly st heaps with loads of damage and hardly any documents.

God knows what they are doing there as they have some serious machinery in the place - but its just incredibly, incredibly dodgy!
There the scammers like most in europe who buy all the UK writeoffs or cars with clocked mileage then sell them throughout europe!

my mate went to see a porsche gt2 they advertised it as stolen recovered, with a driver seat missing, more like it had been dodge repaired (cat c) with mileage descrepancies when he used hes brain and carried out a uk hpi check!!

They took out the driver seat and a few other bits to pass it off as stolen recovered with no damage, later he found out they brought it off a dealer down in essex as damage repaired!!!

BEWARE of them they sell alot of cars to unsuspectin europeans who distribute them all over europe and the middle east, they dont ave plush offices as they target the traders who happily shift on the cars for tidy profits no botherin abt what history theyve had!!!

I've never understood why Lexus has never been bigger with the UK plublic... They clearly make very good cars... always tops with the consumer ratings for reliability... In my view, they are German quality, with japanese costs and relaibility... I'll admit that they all do seem to be a bit "80's", but you will never hear an owner say anything but positive comments...
One word - Partridge. I'm not saying thats right... Just... Partridge.
