Living up to your name I see.

I am looking forward to the day when you have to see a surgeon who's cat has just died because some retard didn't give a st about antifreeze.

Read his post again.
Read it again, twice and I quoted accurately, but selectively. The post can be read in 2 ways. So if he doesnt give a st then I stand by my post, if this is not what was meant then I apologise.

Go back and read the post again and quote it in context - I'm well aware of the dangers of antifreeze to cats and last year had a major row with a neighbour who thought it was just fine to drain his antifreeze on the drive without any attempt to catch it and dispose of it properly

But then again this is PH and the internet people can say what they want -

Example

Fib - Brand X is the best in the world - I'm using it and it's costing me 1p per litre when diluted to 1:1000 and it's minus 32 Deg C out side right now and my washers work right from cold and it de-ices the screen for me too when it's a nasty frost

Truth - I'm actually using antifreeze cos I can't see the difference - I'm using it neat and I don't care that cats locally are dying from licking the spilages on the drive or that it's costing me £10 to do 50 miles a week

The cats and antifreeze is a serious point

none at all taken - I'd agree with you totally - it's a horrible death for a cat and very difficult to diagnose like all poisons - unfortunately they like the taste/smell so people need to be really careful how they dispose of antifreeze.

I wasn't surprised that you picked up on the forum name and went that way biggrin It's more to do with cars TBH

Anyway having slightly de-railed the thread any chance you can comment of the screenwash you use wink

Anyone else here think these prices are a bit much? I was fuming the other day when I got caught out on the road on a long trip and I had to pay FIVE QUID for 5L of premix.

I bought my screenwash below for £9.70 + VAT for 25L of concentrate! Its not bad stuff either smile

Never tried to buy it in a 25L container (Just buy a case of 4 x 5L) Whats the dilution rate for current outside temps?

I did the same, and bought the 25 litres. 10 quid and use it neat. Has worked all through the winter? Bought it from Euro Car Parts. Great stuff.

Tesco blue concentrate is crap. Bottle turned to mush at -3C.
Mine never and I bought 3 bottles and left them outside.
My Sainsburys ready mixed stuff was crap and froze at about -2.

Currently diluting 50/50. No freezing problems unless the snow has frozen over the washer jets but a quick squizz with the blowtorch sorts that out smile

+1 for Frostex from Euro Car Parts - http://www.eurocarparts.com/ecp/p/car-accessories/...

Also I can recommend Holts High Performance screen wash 5L Conc from Costco.

Both products defo work. Cant deal with ready mix junk.

Edited by giggity on Sunday 26th December 13:36
Any idea what the recommended mix ratios are for the Frostex stuff is to bring it more in line with Southern UK temperatures. -70° is all well and impressive but slightly over the top even for Siberia.
Not sure as I have binned the bottle,

My car holds 7 litres, So i just added the entire bottle and 6L water and its been very good.

Once the holts from Costco has finished I may look at buying a 25L drum from ECP however I dont think it will be for a long time yet. (2 for £7 at Costco for the Holts) - I am unsure of the drum from ECP too - Anyone used it and know who it is made by?

The best stuff I have ever used is the Vauxhall branded stuff available from your local Vauxhall dealer.

The Porsche stuff which they give (charge for) at service is crap, my car is sat in the garage and has been for weeks has frozen solid the whole bloody washer container, so here is hoping come thaw time it is not split. Oh and if you mix it with another brand it turns into a substance like wall paper glue frown

Hi from cold Germany,
I use some stuff that is rated down to -60°C, why ?
At higher speeds, the factor of evaporative cooling comes into play,
I had experienced an instant-frozen windscreen years ago at 80mph on the overtaking lane
when I used diluted screenwash, not very pleasant this sudden frosty blindness.

Same price as the lower rated blue temperature one.

Is that for the 5l bottles? I may have to pay them a visit.

I've been using the stuff that Lidl had in at the start of the winter, but the last of it is now in the screenwash tank.
5 litres of it lasted me all winter last year, but this year I seem to have been getting through it faster than this thing could

The Lidl stuff is supposedly good for down to -60 if used neat, it's not bad stuff, it smears a bit more than the Einszett Kristallklar I use the rest of the year and I find I have to use more of it to clear the screen, but the Einszett stuff doesn't have any anti-freeze in.
I started off using in mixed 1:2 moving closer to 1:1 as the temperatures got lower, coldest I've seen on my way to work was -9, maybe getting lower over night and not had any problems with it freezing, apart from when I switched over from the Einszett stuff, but that was most likely to be due to the some of the old stuff still being in the pipes.
I'd buy more of it if there was any of it left in my local shop.

Just found this large pic of the bottle showing the specs etc courtesy of Google

I've got that stuff. Seems not bad, does stink a bit though.
