Thanks for proving my point.
They are to be used to help you see in the appropriate conditions, not to shine in the face of oncoming traffic. They are also designed to keep the light low for a reason. Why do you think there's legislation detailing when to use them?
Same can be said for your headlights numbnuts but if you go and look, you can still see them at 50/250/500m ffs. They are to be used to help you see in the appropriate conditions, not to shine in the face of oncoming traffic. Terzo, thanks for your obvious consideration for other road users. ![rolleyes](/inc/images/rolleyes.gif)
Front fogs are just a marketing tool these days. Completely useless and VERY annoying 99% of the time.
Rears are far more useful when used properly (rarely), but then they don't look as cool do they.![rolleyes](/inc/images/rolleyes.gif)
It's worth remembering though that on some cars the rears can't be switched on without putting the fronts on first.

Some of the new DRLs are actually in the fog light area and look exactly like fog lights. I don't see why we have to have a thread on fog lights every month when there is no solution other than to not stare at their fogs or wear sunglasses if you are absolutely compelled to look at them.

It's the misuse of high intensity rear lights that gets my goat.
The LED brake lights on new BMWs are physically painfull at night, I'm sure it must be possibly to have them linked to the reversing sensor so they come on really bright in normal use but have a dimmer setting when there's a car sat behind them in traffic.Eagerbeaver said:

mine is when people don't use their handbrake when stopped and keep their foot on the brake(only when it's dark), but thats for another thread.bobmcgod said:

It's because they think they look cool. Shame the BiB don't start fining them for improper use.
£60 fine if used in impropper conditions.![](/inc/images/censored.gif)

Do people really find front 'fog' lights blinding?(probably just irritating?) I honestly don't think they are, but get some vehicles with HIDs (legal)infront or behind and i'd say this is more irritating as they can be blinding!!(yet legal).I never seen dazzling fog lights, just annoying HID and ill adjusted dip beam headlights.
Totally agree. Fog lights dont blind me. That said, they should not be used when there is no fog. As others have said before, not switching any lights on when needed (i.e. dusk, rain, dark overcast weather etc.) annoys me. In contrast to front fogs, drivers who put their rear fogs on when thier is a hint of rain (but no fog) do actually dazzle me - particularly on the motorway. Next time I see such a driver I might have to dazzle them with a right uppercut to their head
