A SOURCE has told Car Dealer Magazine that Carsite could be about to partner up with Tesco to sell cars.
Car Dealer Magazine revealed in Issue 36 that it is believed the supermarket giant is gearing up to launch a used car sales portal.
A source close to the project told us that a website – similar in style to Autoquake.com – would be used to sell tens of thousands of used cars a year. Carsite.co.uk is very similar to Autoquake so the fact our source believes they are the preferred partner makes a lot of sense.
‘It would be very difficult for Tesco to set up a website that works selling cars out of the box,’ said our source.
‘A partnership with an existing dealer group makes a lot of sense. I’m very certain that Carsite will be that partner. I have it on very good authority that it’s the case. They will provide a white label product for Tesco. This will allow the supermarket group to get into the market quickly.’
Carsite currently lists more than 2,000 cars on the its website, many of which are Motability cars – the source of stock we believe Tesco plans to use. Carsite is well practised in the art of selling cars online too with an excellent website making buying cars with the click of a mouse simple.
They secured a Highly Commended place in the Car Dealer Ewards last year for their use of RAC videos of every car they sell.
Initially Carsite was set up to sell cars from fleet to the trade. That was back in 1998, but since then the firm has evolved to retail cars to consumers.
We contacted Carsite for a comment but so far it has declined to make a statement. We also contacted Tesco again and it sticks by its original statement that it ‘doesn’t comment on speculation or rumour’.

Yup, you can choose to take a fuel allowance but no longer the actual car.
Looking out of the office window now, I can see a few Audi A3s, a few Golfs, loads of Minis and NO Prius'

Ahhhh my mistake, I was getting my Tesco and my Boots booking requests mixed up. After booking in your 50th car of the day the companies all merge into each other lolLooking out of the office window now, I can see a few Audi A3s, a few Golfs, loads of Minis and NO Prius'

THAT'S why they are successful.
They dont provide good quality, and they dont provide it at a low price. They manipulate pricing to best suit themselves. We were all led to believe the brave new dawn of out of town hypermarkets that would stack em high and sell em cheap. Turns out now that they've forced many small businesses to close and changed our perception from buying our weeks groceries from a local store, we now all flock to these big Tesco sites whereby we get our groceries at perhaps a few pence at best better overall that our locals provide them at.Tehy provide good quality ata low price, and people love that.
THAT'S why they are successful.

Yeah probably, but nothing on there at the moment really struck me as been amazing value for money. Looks like they purchased www.carsite.co.uk rather than starting out from scratch.

Luckily absolutely no-one from here will buy a car from them. I just read their road test terms and conditions!

I would if it was priced right. Its the same as buying from auction you don't get to test drive there. If you look Tesco do actually provide a video of the car been test driven, along with the RAC report.SubaruSteve said:

People will buy, Tesco is a big name and won't be selling rubbish or cheaply. Most buyers still think Arfur Daley when it comes to car dealers, and Tesco is far away from that image. I would imagine it may be more profitable to charge retail rates to end customers, versus trade prices at auction if you can get the whole operation working efficiently.
- 7 day return policy
- One whole month warranty
- Claimed the cars where being sold just as they were coming available from large lease companies (so should be serviced any everything!)
- No test drives (as pointed out above)

Much as I hate Tesco to death, there are plenty of plebs who will think buying a car like they buy their baked beans is a great idea.

I was bemused by the 87 pages of testimonials until I read a few and they refer to CarSite.http://www.cardealermagazine.co.uk/publish/superma...

You effectively get 7 days to test drive it and return it if you're not happy. It's in their T's & C's and, if you buy online and have the car delivered, Distance Selling Regulations give you that. 'Unfortunately we cannot offer test drives before purchase. However, every car is taken on a thorough road test by the RAC. A video of this test drive will be provided to you as part of your RAC report.'
