Pretty sure it was around 80-90p per litre when I started.

Don't really take much notice of the cost anymore, I just fill it until it clicks. Whatever the cost, I need fuel and not prepared to drive 10miles to save 1p per litre elsewhere!

I remember when petrol hit 40p a litre and everyone was in uproar about it.
Something had occurred and and put the price up but there were assurances that it would come down again. Yeah, righto. rolleyes

I also remember when I was in the USA in 2001 that petrol was around 50 pence a gallon. I was stunned.

I had my first car, a Ford Anglia, and it cost £2 for a tankful. 30p per gallon which is about 7p a litre. They sold 2*, 3*, 4* and rarely 5*. People used to put a shot of Redex for each gallon in the tank. Diesel cars were almost unheard of.

My previous car was a Monaro which cost me £30 per hour in petrol

My fisrt transport was also a Lambretta 200 and I used to cadge a lift to work in a Sprite - dreadful car with windows you push horizontally to open/close.

Think it was about 68p per litre in 2000, those were the days when a minimum wage job could be commuted to laugh

I spent 5 years doing 30k/year and I remember that petrol was 60.9p/litre at the start of that. But the interesting thing is that prior to that I just don't remember. Petrol was cheap enough that you didn't really notice it costing much as it didn't form a significant part of your outgoings. I definitely recall putting a fiver's worth in the car, now it isn't worth putting less than £40 in at a time.

About 85-90p a litre in March 2005. In 2008 it cost £60 to fill my E39 up, now it cost nearly £80 frown bds.

I rode my Honda XR200R from Vryheid to Durban (about 280 KMS) on R9.50 petrol (about 90p) in the early eighties. Petrol was R0.40c per litre IIRC, that's 4p.

0.99 cents per US gallon when I had my Trans Am which was a good thing as I could get through a full tank (don't remember the size) in one night having only covered about 50 miles. Burnouts and impromptu drag races tend to kill fuel economy.

I can remember four bob a gallon.

Given that the old money stopped about 1970,
I'd estimate sometime in the late 1960s.

In new money, that's about four pence ha'penny
a litre for full fat leaded petrol.

£1.32 a litre for unleaded at my local Tescos
these days.

£1.28 per gallon. 50 pence worth would last me all week on my Honda SS50.

50p of petrol lasted a week?

For arguments sake say you got 100mpg, are you saying you only did just over 50 miles per week?
