I have decided to buy a boxster tongue out it's cheaper to insure that the vxr lol as I have bought a wee Clio too for runs to the tip and for when the winters bad, so can buy something totally impracticable
That's the way to do it - a shed, plus something nice, ideally on a limited mileage/classic policy.
The 'demographic' (woo, big wurds at 10pm on a friday) of the average owner is important - forget VXR/STi/CTR and go for something you can drive without needing to wear a £50 bobble hat - Boxster appeals to the more, er, mature motorist so the insurance may well be half sensible even at 21.

Enjoy the Boxster. I'd have gone Elise/Exige/VX220T/Caterham myself (well, the 7 obviously driving) but the Boxster is a good (safe wink) choice.

The Boxster will be a better 'burd puller' though I'd have thought, which I can vaguely remember being important at 21 years of age.

The 7 (@23 years old) was pretty good at finding adventurous types wink but you're right a Porker would have been better if you're after the sort of girl who's impressed by money.

I'd forget about the 57 plate onwards personally, and get something like this:

Private plate will cover the age, and 4k left over to spend on insurance
Had a look at m3's but can't get insured until im 21 whereas I can get the boxster now! So will be ringing round this week

Evo 8 at 21. Fair play, sir. I would have thought monstrous insurance on an Evo. I'm 20 myself and can't think of cars like this at the minute. I have driven an Evo 6 though and been in an FQ-330 8. Insane power delivery in both.

With the original budget I've have gone 2 car route. K-series Caterham (9-11K) and a runabout. Kit car insurance is pretty cheap and the car will hardly depreciate.

21 and insuring an S2000, Boxster or 911. Really?

For reference, I got one of my chaps at work who is 22 (albeit with only 3 months driving under his belt) to see how much it would cost to insure him on my Subaru. The cheapest? £22,000.

I think you are having a laugh suggesting those cars.
did a quote for myself on a 911 for when im 21, admiral multicar 4 years NCB - 1200 quid... just a scratch more what im insure my 2000 vw polo 1.4 8v for right now.

What would it cost roughly to insure boxster at 26 with 4years no claims and low risk postcode? <£500 possible?

fk me i'm in the wrong job, what the hell do you do to have 15k for a car at 21 (other than finance) ?

Options:
Sell drugs
Sell bum
Sell mum/gf/sister or similar
Have the sort of job 21 yr olds have, maybe £300 a week and save like mad, not spend a penny.
Have a really good job earning well (which is difficult at 21)
Well off parents

The only ones at that or around that age i knew were the ones who worked really hard for it (but forget to mention they earn £200 a week, but dads well off)

I dont care either way, i would love to have wealthy parents, and would accept what ever i got.

Intrigued.

I know this will sound rude, but forget the fact you have a private plate which will dictate the age of the car you buy. 15K will get you some fantastic older stuff than a basic 'hot hatch' which you are suggesting - e.g. boxster, S2000, even 911 (assuming insurance doesn't kill you).

I transitioned over from a 205 GTi to a Porsche 924S when I was 21 (not that long ago). The secret? Classic insurance. I paid about £700 in each instance.

It is harder to get classic insurance for young drivers these days, but I think it is out there still. And it can be quick and/or modern stuff too, providing it's a relatively specialist car that meets the usage requirements.

The correct answer is finance. (If they don't have rich parents)

I come across quite a few ~21yr olds with nice cars. None of them seem to be able to explain where they got their money from scratchchin Its always either parents or finance but the majority of them won't admit it/are kidding thereselves about it.

Saying that, you do get the odd exception that has put away ~£80 a week for the past 4yrs(very rare though)

Either way, I think EVO VIII's are under £9k now. Not too hard to free up 9k in this day and age!
