Free 48 hour test drive in a Laguna - delivered to your door
Discussion
I'm taking delivery of my free weekend hire car this Friday evening. After having read earlier posts I thought it best to ring Avis customer services to confirm my booking - only to initially be told that my booking hadn't got through to them from Renault.
I decided to email Renault Customer Services cc'ing Renaulttd@Avis stating that I looked forward to receiving a vehicle at my designated deilery destination - and pointing out that I'd recently had extended drives in a Mondeo and a 407 without any problems (bit of a white lie) - that did result in a swift response.
Personally, I don't ever intend to buy a Laguna, however I may at some point be interested in other, more exciting Renaults - and so in that sense I think it is also a 'test' of Renault's Customer Service. So far so average I guess.
If anyone from Renault is listening - what they need to do in the case of this scheme is provide more feedback about what is happening after you place the booking. At the moment you get an email the moment you book and then nothing more until the day before your delivery date - all being well. They should provide further information so 'customers' know the booking is being processed and hasn’t been lost. So the current email to say the booking has been received, and then another (it can be automated I'm sure) to say it has successfully be passed onto, and received by, xxxx branch of Avis with their contact details etc. This should be done asap after booking. That way people will be able to have a clue that a car will actually materialise when it should do.
Like other people have said, although it is not a paid for service, some people who have booked will have done so with a particular date in mind for when they want use of the car. Those people that have had to change bookings or re-book for an different date are, I suspect, less than happy with the customer service provided and, for them, the marketing / PR exercise by Renault and/or Avis has probably had the opposite to the desired effect.
Anyway, not to look a gift horse in the mouth, but I'm just hoping I don’t get a 1.5 diesel now…..

Just got a call from london west renault regarding my test drive of a megane R26. I have been told i can only have a 1 hour test drive they dont offer the 24 hour option on the R26. I can however take one of the other Meganes for 24 hours though, thats a tad annoying was hoping to have had some fun! Oh well never mind.

Don't take my previous comments wrongly. I didn't like the Laguna but fair play to Renault. No unwanted phone calls, no marketing s
t through the letter box, they just let me have a go in it.
It wasn't as bad as I was expecting either. The interior quality on the old laguna was a joke but it was fine on the new one. I hate most bland, FWD, repmobiles so my dislike of it was to be expected.

Well I've had my test drive.. The car was delivered as promised….. It hasn't however been collected yet. It doesn't seem as though they want it back in a hurry.
My hoping worked - it was a 2.0 dci 150 - not exactly quick but perfectly adequate.. Except below 2000rpm where there is nothing
Watch out when trying to enter roundabouts in 2nd - nothing will happen for about 2-3 seconds… it literally feels as though the engine has stalled.
Other than that pretty good.. Decent interior, decent stereo, electronic handbrake good to use, and a speed limiter function which is useful in known speed camera locations.
I managed to rack up roughly 500 miles which was near enough a tank full at an average of about 42mpg. And all it cost was £70 in diesel - cheers Renault.

Pretty much the exact experience as me with the exact same car! Had a couple of dodgy moments at roundabouts where the car just didn't move in 2nd gear. This is my first ever diesel so I don't know if this is normal? In the right rev band it was quick enough I guess. Just confirms to me that I'll never buy a smoker though....!My hoping worked - it was a 2.0 dci 150 - not exactly quick but perfectly adequate.. Except below 2000rpm where there is nothing

Only other thing I didn't like was the gearbox.
Good quality but not very exciting...just what I needed for the weekend

Had a phone call saying the Tourer wasn't available, so I've ended up with teh 2.0 diesel hatch.
Been delivered and i've had a wee drive.
OMFG it is awful.
Lightest cluch I've ever used, uninspiring cabin, with stupid animations about changing gear.
I'm going to Edniburgh and Glasgow this weekend, so it will save me some pennies.

I browse through these forums and saw this thread so i thought i would have a go at this to see what occurs. I applied for it online and had a confirmation email back saying the car was booked (this was 3 weeks ago).
The car was due to arrive today but i didnt hold out much hope as i hadn't heard anything, i got a call today from my local Avis at 10am saying the car would be with me just after lunch, so i popped home to find an 08 plate, black, 2.0 DCI tourer parked down my drive with the keys through the letter box, so i say customer service so far has been excellent.
The car however, is rather a let down, my daily drive is an 06 Vectra CDTI SRI 150 so nothing to shout about, so i was serious on trying out some cars as mine is due to go soon. The equipment is very good on it, the brakes are awful and wont stop squealing, the turbo lag is quite shocking and it feels like the car is much older than it is, my car in comparison has a much better build quality and is much more responsive, but, big up Renault for doing this offer, ok, but must try harder !

Mine is due to turn up today and they've phoned me and e-mailed me to confirm. However they've just phoned me again to say the car they were going to deliver has a puncture so they're trying to get it repaired, and if they don't get it done in time then they'll give me another car and I can swap it tomorrow and keep the car until Tuesday apparently. Fine by me because I wasn't going away for the weekend. They are being very helpful.
Hopefully though they'll get it sorted today![smile](/inc/images/smile.gif)

That's pretty funny that Renault are paying for you to test their rival!!
I had a Honda Accord 2.2 CDTi from Friday to Tuesday over the last bank holiday weekend after they ballsed up my booking for a second time. That was only after I kicked up a fuss though. They were going to leave me with nothing...again, "as per the T&Cs". I've still no idea what the Laguna is like (not great by all accounts on this thread) but I was pretty impressed with the Honda. In fact, my old man was so impressed that he's seriously consider replacing his A4 with one!Mattt said:
