I've just heard from Derin: I won't steal his thunder but watch this space for details of an interesting purchase.
The threads off to a great start for 2019!r129sl said:
I never did hear back from Strela, though.
A shame, his threads were usually a great read. Thanks for the update. I like the suggestion that Derin amasses a massive collection of special cars and then grants special access to his special collection to a special group of particularly close internet special friends who are all a bit special with specialist interests. We could probably have a T-shirt printed.

For a rust killer I've used Hammerite Kurust before - I remember the Bilt Hamber range of items are well reviewed, but a different class of expense really.
Not a fan of Kurust here, the rust came back within weeks. 745i update time!
... Nothing to report... She still runs lumpy at low revs from cold, but is totally fine after 10 minutes. I've found that putting her in sport mode for that 10 minutes helps as the revs stay higher for longer.
MOT is due in march, was thinking about getting the headlights demisted beforehand, as they are pretty clouded.

We're a broad church here and sorry to be picky, but really? She? It's an it. It's a car. Please don't tell me you've named 'her'. Do we/you/they all do that? Maybe I'm out of touch.

Not a fan of Kurust here, the rust came back within weeks. Fortunately the car in question is a loathsome Korean st-box so I'm not too worried.
Note to thread - never buy a car from me!

All clean and drug dealer window tints removed this morning. More jobs to do but I’m looking forward to my first week getting to know the G!

That's in amazing condition. Well done that man.BJg+9PifTjajHIp1iOcLDw by Jack O'Brien, on Flickr
Sub 2k e38 728. For some reason I like the ad. Claims new fuel tank and general good condition. Had I not purchased the e39 I would be giving the owner a call to judge things further. https://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C1062565
Whilst the car isn't yet in thread land ('07 S6 avant), I did spend a fun few hours taking the dash off to replace the nav/media screen, only for the replacement to show the same fault as the original.
Then after putting the old screen back it started working again, then stopped. Apparently the problem is the cable, maybe, so that's some fun for the weekend.
Also 2 parking sensors don't work, so have to find replacements for them, and work out htf to fit them.
Additionally it's finally getting replacement throttle bodies this week, for the bargain price of £700 + fitting (c30% the price Audi wanted), although in true barge fashion the relevant fault code disappeared yesterday and hasn't returned. So I'm sure the new parts will fix the problem, probably.
And my crappy celica has cost c£600 in brakes and bits this month, just in time for it to be donated to my nephew for less than the cost of the the brake stuff, no doubt I'll have to put new tyres on it for him first though.
Been a good month of two from a car perspective

The rash of barge updates forces me to share the news that my V70 is to be treated to a pair of Osram nightbreakers.
£12 for the pair.
Hopefully this may help with the MOT whereby dim reflectors have been diagnosed and recorded on the pass. Luckily the tester sent me away to sort the eml (listed on the last two tests) which left me £250 poorer, but the proud new owner of a Denso CO2 sensor.
As you were.
