Cyclists without lights - something needs to be done

The numbers you quote above were cherry picked from a few years out of a much larger data set. There were only 2 years where the majority of cyclists deaths in London involved HGVs. For each of the other individual years, on average over the 8 years of reported data, and for every area outside of London the majority of cyclists deaths did not involve HGVs. So my original point, which was that we should not limit discussing cyclist safety only to those incidents involving HGVs, still stands.

Changed a sidelight on our Saab last night; had to loosen the bumper, take out the washer reservoir fill tube, relocate a fusebox, and take out the headlamp unit. Sorry, but you're talking nonsense, the national numbers showed a lower percentage of HGV deaths, but the thread was about London and you did use national figures as if they were London only, it was FiF who pulled you up on it. The numbers I originally posted in that thread (18%) were for the national data. The numbers I referred to earlier in this thread (30-40%) were the numbers I discussed with FiF after you posted the link to the London only data.FiF said:

On tonight's episode of Catch that Naughty Cyclist!!1! we have a fairly well behaved lot. Obviously this cannot be the first image or video I took, and I had to leave a lot on the cutting room floor, but hey ho, here it is.
21 out of 21 in this image and by my count had lights, and a good deal had high vis. (never mind that they were also using the cycle infrastructure and all stopped at the light)

For full disclosure, I saw two people with only high viz and no lights (one deliveroo rider, and the other a construction worker).
Also, hilariously, two cyclists rode into each other on the other side of Blackfriers Bridge, that should at least please some here.

You don't need to go anywhere, I'm not telling you what to do. I'm genuinely just saying that my observations tended to differ from when you were out towards Brixton, Peckham, Herne Hill, Dulwich, Balham than just north of the river.cb1965 said:
Genuine question - in what way were the 31 lights broken? Misaligned in which case I see plenty of those, but one or more not functioning at all I see a lot less of these days probably as modern cars tell you on the dash when specific lights are out.

No chaos whatsoever. I haven't seen anyone else in this thread reporting "chaos" in London.

From left to right, no.3 im assuming is on a boris bike therefore has some sort of lighting.
Red jacket has a front light only
Person in in black looks like they have a front light only
Blue trousers, nothing,
Dude in yellow with red pannier - im assuming thats a piezo rear light
Guy at the front on the white 'racer' has nothing.
i occasionally work in/around the 'city' and youll see numerous 'naughty' cyclists. Same as youll see elsewhere around the country. The ones i cant understand are the ones with the stty little lights which offer the ride next to no lighting and hardly visible to a driver.
Yes i cycle and yes im naughty in that i have the 'for off road use only' lights on my bike due to having retards pull out on me with my previous stty lights. Dont worry, i aim them so the beam cuts off at the same point as a car
