Agree with Shmee there. Likewise, I don't think I would ever share some of the relationship/family/personal stuff some put all over their channels/social media.

Anyway, who liked my video last night sat on the floor talking about trainers? LOL
Needless to say it hasn't gone viral...

He played well it seems. He didn't mention any broker fees but I take it he discusses net amounts for him. That said, it will be difficult to continue like this and yet produce car content. Cars are expensive to buy and own and you can't be a youtube millionaire just from automotive content...I guess that's why he started reviewing gadgets and real estate...

He did fail to mention that a lot of it is not just his purchasing tactics but also the macro level backdrop of low interest rates and asset bubbles....

A property developer that makes £50k by painting the living room between 2012 and 2016 can hardly call themselves that if the whole street has gone up by the same percentage.

I like how Shmee is always the benchmark when it comes to assessing other motoring-related content/creators. Just shows what a powerhouse he and his brand now is. People tend to forget the calibre of cars he features in his videos (ignoring the Peugeot in today's video, sorry). Margot Robbie could review a BMW X3 and I'm sure I'd be bored after a couple of minutes.
Shmee's video on the 308 GTi is the first I've watched of his in it's entirety! I don't really care what these people have to say about the latest supercars [I prefer to watch Harry Metcalfe/Chris Harris etc who really know how to drive the nuts off car like these] but the Pug is a car I've put on my Wife's maybe list and I wanted to see how Shmee got on with seeing the dials over the odd little steering wheel and the touchscreen.

I'd watch that if you feature some Jordan's [the 32's are just out]!

I just can't watch Vehicle Virgins, can't put my finger on why. But it just shows that some appeal and some don't, no real reasoning why.

I still watch most of Salamondrin's videos, even though that's barely about cars these days. Love his podcasts though, that's pure car talk and I love it, as I do with Behind the Glass which I think Sam is recording more of this week.
Hasn't there been at least one fairly well documented outburst by the vehicle virgins guy when he was demanding to be exclusive at certain launches etc?

Plus his chosen promoted video is a girlfriend prank video.

I gather it's very difficult to come up with new and original content on a daily basis.
And therein lies the problem.

When you had content in magazines you had a month to produce something interesting. Vlogging / Youtube now demands al constant stream of daily content and its impossible to keep churning out consistently decent stuff.

From a quality point they would be better off doing 1 a week but its obviously all about the views, ad revenue and those pesky algorithms keeping you at the top of the lists

The American car guys are flying at the moment; The Stradman, Vehicle Virgins, Doug Demuro... They are putting the European channels to shame!

I don't watch Stradman or VV but I actually really like Doug Demuro, he's a decent presenter and the cars featured are usually something genuinely different too, unlike just featuring the latest Lambos/Mclarens that everyone else is reviewing. Doug gives a seriously in-depth look at some rare/interesting/quirky cars plus injecting his own opinions rather than just reading off a spec-sheet. Fifteen minutes spent watching him poke around a Lamborghini LM002 or a Bentley Mulsanne is fifteen minutes well spent.

That said, I usually turn off the second he starts actually driving as it's just a facecam of him pottering around 30-zones

He looks 12 and sometimes seem to act it too. He also needs to drop the Casey Niestat influences. He does however seem to have a hell of a networking power to be able to get rides and in some cases drive hypercars.
It's clear that YT isn't paying as well as it was though. The Jeep that had lots of mods planned has had virtually nothing, no doubt thanks to the huge bill he had on the Gallardo changing the clutch.

I have a lot of respect for him though given he was living in his car a few years ago.
He still is living in his car isn't he.. well he was/is soon to be evicted from mates house he was crashing at.
My guess is he will have the same dilemma as Paul/SOL has had in regards to having to have a grown-up experience of needing to own a home.
It;s weird looking at the Stradman's views - he generally gets 100-200,000 views for his videos, but then there are three or four that have over 1.5m. Guess it must be algorithm related. But his view/sub ratio is very good, he generally gets the same sort of viewing numbers as Tim but with half the subs.

I guess he plays very well in America, he's very clean living, doesn't swear, is very 'nice boy' and is fairly upfront about being religious. That Dan guy who he goes to for the big cars must have serious money though - Zonda Tricolore, Cinque and Cinque Roadster, LaF, Huayra BC, Centenario and Chiron all in the garage. All a bit 'obvious' for my liking but can't fault his commitment biggrin
That was a good vlog.. made me uber jealous of that Dan geezer - made my old lambo look like a run-about car in comparison. Although I did get a bit disappointed that the cars have so little miles on them?

This really annoys me, the driving is the least interesting part of his vids. It is usually pretty dull. I expect he doesn't really care as his vids still get insane views.

I'd love it if Doug and Matt Farah could do joint reviews of these interesting cars, Doug doing the walkaround and Farah doing the driving. Winning combo

It's a balance, you have to create content considering the audience as a whole and where the largest numbers sit in terms of what they want to see. As I've explained before, if I were to dial up the nerd level to PH standard, my audience would collapse and fall through the floor.
Are you saying your nerd level ISNT dialled up high?? Here's me thinking you need to dial it down and tone down the giggly girly child laugh.
Pretty unnecessary thing to say. If you don't like it, don't watch it. He just explained why his videos are like they are, PH die hards are not the target audience.

I meant that in a humorous way - guess it didn't read that way.

I'm expecting they'll make a bald middle aged gimp like me look 'well sick' and, er, 'on fleek'.

Or tragic. That too. hehe

In all seriousness though, they're for the gym and playing basketball in, so won't see much 'outside' action biggrin

Feel free to tell me to not be so nosy, but could you expand on this? I guess I was under the impression it was your own 'business' so to speak? I.E you do exactly what you want and when?

Is this someone from Youtube pushing you to make different content? Or someone else?

I'll hazard a guess that it is a YouTube channel manager - I had the same when I was working on affiliate marketing with Google, eBay Amazon etc - the network managers were always keen to impart (impose) their opinion whether it was aligned with your own principles and strategy or not.
