In all fairness, I'd say I'm the loser for driving around in an Astra! smile

And anecdotally:

They aren't clocks from the figs quoted. The figures are from a mk4 'G' coupe, those clocks are from a mk5 'H'.

(Iirc from my Astra owning yoof)

Astras in the barge thread. The 'old skool' won't like this!

You are right - the page I linked is the first page I found for an old Astra with that performance

I didn't mean to draw attention. I am on a barge hunt this week and I think I'll have an update by Thursday afternoon. The car in question is outside thread budget though

We all know that thread budget is elastic. As is barge actually.

What are you getting? I do love a purchasing story.

I've probably done enough Vauxhall chat for this thread this evening!

But I always fancied an Omega and I've noticed they're getting rare so now is the time. I wouldn't pay £1000 or more for a Vauxhall Omega so I'm going below thread budget.

I've got a few shortlisted and some appointments to see them. The only rule is that it has to be a six cylinder petrol (six and four cylinder diesels and four cylinder petrols were also available).

Trim spec and saloon vs estate are all negotiable, with a slight preference to estate

Good luck Jimmy, and keep us updated. I've a soft spot for the omega.

I've found one particular car that I really want - it's an odd spec and the MOT history looks ok with good history with the car. I don't want to post it because the fewer people that see it, the better!

I'll post back and make a readers cars thread when it finally works out. I've been trying to buy one for a few weeks but there's surprisingly a lot of competition for any of the nicer ones, I've found

I think the Omega is very much a thread machine, best of luck!

Yep, some Omega love here too. But beware the seats. they can be properly uncomfortable - which detracts from the bargyness somewhat.

Interesting you say that - a friend warned me of that when I mentioned I was looking for one. I've been in quite a few over the years and never noticed a problem with the seats. He also said the same about the Insignia - I spent all of March driving one and found it fine.

I'm definitely going to look out for rubbish seats - the evidence gets less anecdotal every time someone mentions it

I often think that seats are very much dependent on your size/shape. Bit of a gamble really, once you've bought it there's not much you can do!

You're right Krikkit. I'm not planning to do many miles in it anyway - it's not going to be pounding up and down the motorways every day. Maybe commute a day or two a week and some other trips.

My daughter, who penned the 'Loser' tag, tells me blown 2cv had been 'rinsed'.
you should get your daughter to take your place; she's considerably funnier than you.

I'll tell her, although I suspect she already knows.

Like everything about that, including the colour.

As an ex-owner I feel as if I should know this, but are orthopaedic seats basically Merc-speak for electric lumbar support?
Vacuum-operated lumbar and upper back support, adjustable levels and heights. Works brilliantly.

That's my car for sale, by the way. wink Haven't been on PH for ages, great to see this thread still running!

Was on the M4 eastbound around 8pm yesterday evening, doing approximately 80 leptons, Swindon area, and was passed by a Mercedes 190 in the outside lane, H reg, darkish colour, greenish blueish I think. Was moving, at any rate. Anyone here?

I saw this the other day, very interesting. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/DAstRj8XYAIbC6R.jpg:la...

£32k in 1999 was a hell of a lot of money. Equivalent to £51k today according to BoE inflation calculator. Incredible, for an Omega!
