I love both of these, once upon a time a Granada Scorpio and a Sierra Ghia would have been aspirational to a lot of folk.

They just dont look as dated as they should do they?
"graphic equaliser" - now there's something I haven't heard in a long time!

If I get another 80s barge it's going to have to have one.

Rather keen on that pair, the Granny especially. thumbup

I LOVE that Sierra.

My parents had a MK1 2.0 Pinto estate back in the 80's. Wonderful car, sadly written off frown
Did you get another barge?

Thanks for the offer Graham. Trying to ensure I hold on to the 330 for a bit (at least a few months) this time and not sure a ITR is the answer either!

Why would you want to swap an E38 for an E46?!

i've always loved the 330, wouldn't be half tempted to swap the E38 for anything less than a 330. i think i'd rather a manual 330 to mine as half of me wants something more involving some times.

that said, i suspect soon after i'd be longing for the auto box and the much better refinement of the E38 hehe

Or that 540i6T...
hehe

before i got the E38 i very nearly almost looked at an early 540i SE but decided the E38 was better for me due to potentially slightly lower servicing costs and better fuel bills.

an E46 330i/Ci or E39 530i manual would be lovely, but probably out of my budget....? plus, i'm just about to graduate and don't want to deal with the stresses of buying/selling rofl

to be fair, i love the E38 a lot. ok it's not that quick but for what it's for it's got enough and will dawdle around town effortlessly or eat miles like very few other cars i've been in have been able to better....the only 2 i can think of being that hideous 530GT and current shape merc S class....

even the 28i will do 100mph (just 3000rpm) or so for hours on end without really being stressed, so i'm told whistle

I'm too tight to do 100mph for hours on end in the 530i, prefer doing 550 miles to a tank by doing 70 for hours on end instead hehe

your 530i also revs considerably higher in 5th though, to be fair; though i'm sure it'd still do 100mph all day easily. at 100 i was getting around 27mpg IIRC which i thought reasonable! the low gearing helps massively though as if you knock it into 4th but maintain the speed the mph drops by quite a chunk (just by the swinging needle gauge thing).

it's funny....70mph in my old 1.8 litre E21 felt pretty quick and i rarely used to stray above 75-80.....but the E38 feels SSSSSSOOOOOOOOOOO slow at 70 it's unreal.

i might just keep it for a few years as my dad has hinted at me getting his E92 when he decides to shift it on, which will probably be another 2-3 years (he's already had it over 3!) which will be the longest he's owned a car forever....he loves it that much and is stuck with what to change it for. good news is if i do get it i know it's been maintained well with FSH, and he's had the engine oil done every 7500miles biggrin

You'll hate the E92 after an E38. Mine lasted 3 months before I realised it was a mistake and I needed an F10, which I couldn't afford, so went back to the E39.

330s available at pretty much every budget. I was communicating with an ebay seller who's 330Ci didn't sell last week at less than £2k. Still may get back in touch and see what he wants for it. Thats with leather, FSH and less than 100k. £1k or so more gets you a Sport, then more a facelift etc.

I bought my Saab back in Feb with the intention of keeping it till I finished uni but I got bored and that went straight out the window! Now finished and contemplating the hassle of adding something else for occasional use.

Having had quite a few autos, they're great about town although fuel is atrocious and when the opportunity does come to do some more spirited driving, its a bit wasted. A fleet is obviously the only answer but until then, a 330 is a pretty good compromise.

yep, didn't look at it in the end as i decided if i was to get an E39 it'd be a face lifted model; and this was just coming up for a service and also had an odd clutch noise that put me off.

trust me, i've driven the M3 extensively and been a passenger in it for what must be a good 3000+ miles now and whilst it's not a patch on the E38 for refinement and i think the E38 interior looks nicer, the E92 interior isn't bad, the idrive is simple to use and the ride quality is more than acceptable for the type of car it is, but mostly.....that S65B40 is what i'm after. i've been in a few E92's before but the M3 is on a totally different level. that engine with a 6 speed manual box is just sublime. i'd have it over an E38 750i/iL, i just would. i love that M3 so much, and to possibly have the opportunity to own a tidy example with a manual box (DCT just doesn't do it for me....i like the kick up the arse when you change gear, not a seamless gear as well as more involvement) would be one of my (realistic) dreams biggrin

Having just sung the praises of the 330, I've done an insurance quote on that.

How bad is the bork on one of this vintage?
