Did the recall on the S54 not sort that out for the most part?
If the internet is to be believed, I'd be far more worried about naff bearings on the S65 and S85.
Hard to know what proportion is subject to failure. I wouldn't put it up there with IMS or similar, but the internet distorts reality to an extent it's difficult to establish facts. Quite a few of those issues are stateside I think - various speculative theories on oil and fuel quality. Also, new bearings from MY2010 onwards on the M3, not sure if they did anything on the M5.If the internet is to be believed, I'd be far more worried about naff bearings on the S65 and S85.

Interesting, isn't it? I have always dismissed none GT 911s on the basis of plastic engines.
Lately, like many others, PPBB's amazing thread, has me looking at 3.4 996 again. £15k of 996 3.4 vs £12k of E46 M3 is an interesting internal dialogue. Then I imagine I actually have £12k or £15k for that matter. I'm not sure which one I'd pick.
I’m currently having the same dilemma... with very similar numbers. A 911 still makes me a little nervous on the engine reliability front.Lately, like many others, PPBB's amazing thread, has me looking at 3.4 996 again. £15k of 996 3.4 vs £12k of E46 M3 is an interesting internal dialogue. I’ve also been seriously considering a 968 Sport at £15/16k if I can find a decent one.
Of course it changes on an almost daily basis! I’m currently swaying towards the 968, but I realise all of the above can chuck some bills.
What I’d love is a Z3M coupe, but they are now firmly out of reach.
In the context of our earlier conversations on the thread, a 968 isn't value to me at £16k - not when a 911 is the same or less.
I would seek out an E46 with the subframe already done, would probably then get the shells done as a precaution.

I don't know if this belongs in this thread, the cars you didn't know existed until a few minutes ago thread, or the childish things that amuse you thread because the description begins with the word Årsmodell.
Those of you who browse BAT will have guessed how I stumbled upon this, and I know absolutely nothing about it other than I want it

With a much more fitting set of wheels, preferably smaller and more early 90's, that'd be wonderful. Those of you who browse BAT will have guessed how I stumbled upon this, and I know absolutely nothing about it other than I want it

The shape of the door and rear quarter profile is very RX7 (FC).Those of you who browse BAT will have guessed how I stumbled upon this, and I know absolutely nothing about it other than I want it

My indi has a 968 Sport with a few tweaks that I adore, they're great cars! They do drive completely differently to a 996 though, heavier on the clutch, gear change etc (which I like), but you really do have to wring the neck out of them to get the best from it. I'd struggle with the fact they're more money than a 996, and whilst I wouldn't sell my 996 and buy a 968, I'd happily have both
A few of my very varied picks today:

Still one of the best cars I have driven and in great early spec

Bargain summer fun (very me) but would want to check front panel gap in the flesh
http://www.orchardclassics.co.uk/MGFRED.html
Bit of under the radar Pork
https://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/...
Don't care it's not a Cooper
https://www.historics.co.uk/buying/auctions/2018-0...
Oh, okay. I'll have a Cooper
https://www.historics.co.uk/buying/auctions/2018-0...
And this for daily duties/continent crushing (and it's a LWB - which I obviously need at 5'5")

Great posts chaps
Would love an NSX, especially an NSX-R (any). Suspect a '6RS would win if an option (I guess in the same price bracket as an NSX-R).
Could not decide between the E46 M3 and 996. I think head says M3 (choice at tolerable price point, great engine, great package) but heart would say "I want the 996 (GT3)" I'd sense that, despite deceptively expensive servicing costs for the E46 and the melty engine in the 996, the 996 might win it. Luggage space and rear seats seem to be non-negotiable at present. Parking either on the street seems a bit cheeky around my way but there is 997 Targa owned by one of the other locals, alongside all the assorted MBAs (Mercs, Bimmers and Audis) and the odd Maserati. Lots of "well-heeled entrepreneurial-types" in my neck of Zone 3
Shame the kitchen needs doing...
