That's a good point, were these available as EU/UK colour schemes?
Yes. I am not sure how popular two tone was in the UK and I think it was an option for only the early years of production.

That's very handsome indeed. A challenge for the threadistes. Name me an exterior colour for the R129 that isn't well appointed. To me, they didn't seem to put a foot wrong, but then, I'm no beard in this field.
Some of the 2 tone paints schemes are bit off. Certainly wouldn't have bought this myself.

Crystal green I think, code 256. Seemed to work better in cloudy. overcast Europe!

My pals bought a 730D, 2010 plate, it's done 143k miles, but one owner (ex-BMW manager) and it's absolutely immaculate; the bodywork is stunning, not a dent at all anywhere, no corrosion and the interior hasn't been sat in by the looks of it...

My pal got it for £7.5k! :
Is that cheap for a high mileage soot chucker at 11 years old? Can't say it feels very bargainous (by UK standards) to me, notwithstanding the pandemic-tax.
Defo cheaper ones.but this will have been serviced to death being ex BM car.I would assume.
Agree; it's cheap for a car that's had nothing but BMW servicing & with reams of paperwork!

There are cheaper F01 730Ds out there; but not by a lot.

Not going to lie, I wouldn't be upset if that was parked on my drive. It is certainly a valid point that non car types will look at any of the Bruno Sacco designed cars, see a slabby sided plain Jane and just immediately dismiss it for a later model.
Personally, I think a late model W126 is peak Mercedes up until very recently.

I love that. I'm not sure whether I love or hate this red.

Not the design I don't like otherwise I wouldn't have bought one. Strangely if you reverse the colours (dark top / light bottom) it is far less objectionable:

Crystla green over green cloth is one of the best colour combinations that exist for the R129.

I had to share this, I found the premium-ness all but oozing out of my monitor

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2010-59-Mercedes-1-6-C1...

Just imagine cruising round town in your 1.6 litre Benz, 16" rimz turning, maybe a few friends sitting in your vinyl seats, air blowing warm (just needs regass), slipping smoothly from gear to gear with a 1 foot long throw on the lever, 5" paper cones banging out tunes, comfortable with the peace of mind you get from knowing that it's such a reliable car it can be trusted to go up to four years between services and it's got a solid 4 months left of it's ticket. Mid thread for this seems entirely reasonable.

Yep, the market has gone mad. How is that not a £1200 shed.

Oh I don’t know, some aloe vera should calm that down.

That's a good observation and it reminds me of the rather ethereal Silverstone Blue II, which comes into its own when overcast, it almost glows.

Beard alert - only the 760 model had the 8spd box until after the LCI in ‘13 where it became standard. The one above would have the same 6spd box as the E65.

On a personal level, I don’t like this F01 generation - it’s too bland for such a physically imposing car & so I’d skip a generation & go for the G. While I’m sure that it’s (the F01) no doubt a better car overall than mine, I just don’t want one, in the same way that I do, for the current model (pre grille-gate, obvs)!
I agree, I look at F01 7 series from time to time and find them way too bland, like a bigger F10 5 series... I think I prefer the E65 in a lot of ways for that or even better prefacelift current generation. Much rather have a W221 S350 cdi over that 730d.

Agree. My old man's E92 M3 was Silverstone 2, was a nice colour and a lot nicer than grey. Still wouldn't be what I'd personally pick but it's certainly not as bland as it can first appear.

One thing I hate about these is just how naff the interior looks and feels.

I agree that the interior does feel very bland, i was looking at C63 tourings the other day (might be getting a dog) and even with the sports seats etc. they seem very bland for the type of car...reminds me of a mid 2000's Astra.

I'm still thinking a C63 estate would make a nice family car...

Someone please bid on this before I end up winning it.

Needs 2 new badges (back and rear), a good interior clean, a paintless dent removal and it's good to go!

I have had dealings with the seller of this car, I wouldn't if I were you.

With the right application of colours and materials, the facelifted version can look rather nice:

Its just a shame everyone seemed to option the coal black and cheap looking "aluminium" trim.
