My cousin runs an ek civic 4wd jdm si with a fully built b18c on itbs with a quaife gear kit. It has rusty rear arches and wheel trims.
I think I understand this sentence. If it is standard ride height, standard looking exhaust and a National Trust sticker, I think you make have a decent shout at this thread!Stickyfinger said:

I would say Fail on the sleeper, any US "rat look" truck is suspect these days.Nice truck but edged out by them being "on trend" for hot rodding I think.
Feels like I got an 'F' in a school assignment....
My opinion is I built it by myself, in my garage in 3 months over an unbearably hot summer.
It tried to kill me twice, but I had bloody good fun and I'm now driving it through deep snow and driving rain. It's brilliant.
Mine is not a Chevy small block with carburetor and open exhaust and dropped on airbags, so it's not on trend.
Here in the Midwest everyone drives a pickup truck, I always get someone sidling up to me at the gas station or grocery store and regailing their stories about having owned, driven, been driven in the exact same truck. They seem surprised it's actually running and not languishing behind a barn. In this weather especially they ask how I'm staying warm, when I explain to them I have a great heater and heated seats they raise their eyebrows and I have to come clean and open the hood to show them the engine. It's obviously a surprise and it makes me smile.
So In summary I don't feel I've failed; sleeper contest, show 'n shine, rat rod, whatever.
However I didn't see in this thread if there was an appointed council or judge of what constitutes a sleeper.
Perhaps someone who has actually built a sleeper?

And maybe remove the offside wing mirror cover.
Yep, that Astra is fabulous. I bet you have such fun driving it.
Ironically, it was missing that mirror before the engine swap! The blue mirrors were pinched off the donor Coupe!Yep, that Astra is fabulous. I bet you have such fun driving it.
Cheers for all the positive comments guys, the car is awesome to drive and really does surprise people! I'm hoping to take it over to the Ring this year but undecided on taking this or my Evo 6. For those asking for videos, I'll try to remember to get some once it's mapped!
If the Z20LET in it lunches itself I'll probably go for the later LEH block, forge it, pop a decent diff into it and enjoy it even more so. The car is mega sentimental so I'll never get rid of it if I can help it!

And if your truck pulled up next to me, I would automatically assume it will be far from standard and be able to blow most things out of the water.
It's a fabulous truck and I love the look and its all the more impressive that you've built it up yourself. I certainly don't have the skills.
But, in my very humble opinion, that truck is nowhere near being a sleeper. It's is however totally cool and I'd love one.

As you've correctly pointed out this is ultimately opinion based.

Ah - but you're looking at it through the eyes of someone with an interest in cars. To the "untrained" it looks like 'an old banger' (no offence!) that couldn't possibly outrun my diesel A3/Mini/Passat/insert car here. And if your truck pulled up next to me, I would automatically assume it will be far from standard and be able to blow most things out of the water.
