Looks half decent, was a leaper ever factory fit on the XJS?I think the American market cars had a leaper as a factory option.

Some great work on the purchasing front, and as above it amuses me to see both a Yaris and McLaren on the same thread!
I rather like this 166 3.0 super manual. Are they any good to drive? I imagine that they lack BMW precision, but do they have some Alfa magic to make up for this? http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C704730#

Looks like a ninja is stealing a baby.

This looks quite good too: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/262205028143
There's some really rotten ones for a couple of k which is very tempting.

I was relying on either breaking it or Greater Fool Theory should it turn out that I was making a big mistake, but 2 years and 18,000 miles later it is by far my favourite ever car.
I've spent around £700 on it - partly fixing stuff (which is high-frequency but always very cheap) and partly 'unnecessary' titivation, and I'd hope it's now worth £4k.
Sometimes playing safe is your riskiest option.

Note the windows are steamed up on the inside and the steering wheel's mouldy, so it's very leaky. Potentially grotty floors under the carpets to look for as well as all the usual places.Hate Jags with nose piercings.
Having said that, it still could be a bargain barge

My 1995 4.0 was £1250 on eBay with 2 weeks MOT remaining, but it had been off the road and stored outside for most of that year. It was high miles and full of water but drove well and had an inch and a half of bills and history.

No sat nav,on the car below ,so the centre console looks a little dated, but who cares when its such a nice looker and clour scheme set off with the later wheels.
Decent ad and pics as well....

I like that, definitely don't mind the lack of Nav and the 3.0 does seem a good blend of reasonable performance/economy.

My 2003 XJ6 been a peach so far (4 months). 13 year old nav will be way out of date by now, I'd rather update my TomTom every couple of years instead.I know aftermarket head units are not that popular on this thread, but while modern cars just don't do anything for me, the charm of a thread budget barge supported by modern tech really appeals to me, and done correctly it can look quite acceptable - something like the Pioneer Appradio 4 I installed in my E92 is just a simple buttonless screen, and as it uses Apple carplay the satnav and all the apps are updated automatically as Apple Maps is updated on your iPhone. The new version due to be launched supports Android Auto too.

Thank you. I would have elaborated more but my keyboard battery has died and replacements are two staircases away. This on screen keyboard is a real pain.129K

Weeping rocker cover gasket

Would the pas be that far gone?
Gasket would be cheap as long as it's not relieving pressure from some blockage.

If you believe the vendor the PAS isn't a big or expensive job.
As much as I would like to take that at face value, if I were selling the car I'd deal with the gasket and the steering fault prior to sale.On the other hand, why mention it at all if it's lies. It's an intermittent fault and a seepy gasket on a 20 year old car. I doubt either item would be noticed on a test drive so maybe there is some honesty there? I'm torn, hence why I posted it on here.

"If done correctly".... well, I did this myself on a budget of £0.00 for the fitting E39 530:
Bluetooth, DAB, front USB, rear USB as well so 64Gb flash drive with >4000 tracks in glove box.
Not entirely happy with the wood blanks either side at the mo, may rotate them 90' if I can work out how to hide the cut ends neatly (they are the old tape-deck flap, which gave it up for the team
It's a bit of extra work getting the MID in with the HU, mind

They just keep getting better with age. I even like the big single headlights now.
Could a six cylinder car plus a bit of preventive maintenance equal a vaguely useable daily?
Absolutely. My daily is a blown V8 Jag. And at weekends, it's a V12 Jag.They just keep getting better with age. I even like the big single headlights now.

The only thing I drive with less than 6 cylinders is my tractor.
