Might be joining the mini-barge, bottom of budget, looking in from the outside, club tomorrow. Something blue and R170-like.

Congratulations. Photos needed if you get it.

But it's blue with cream. It would be a good way to go.

..cough.. If it's agreed that E90s are mini-barges, my petrol 6-banger is in the Classified and I believe it qualifies as "suitably suspended" wink..cough..
I think with this size of car it is spec dependant: a boggo 320d manual isn't barge like at all, but a six cylinder auto makes a big difference to the experience. As a barge owner (and a V12 behemoth owner) I find that the E90 possesses some of the barge characteristics, just in a smaller package.

That's my waffly 2p on it anyway.

Another value question, what is the consensus on a w212 e350cdi in budget?

https://www.usedcarsni.com/2011-Mercedes-E-Class-E...

It's done 209000 miles with the same owner and serviced at the same place throughout that time, I think it could be worth a punt?

P.s. if anyone is looking for a derv minibarge, my e91 is now in the classifieds....
Loads of car for the money IMO.

I think the V6 is a really good engine. All the power and torque you really need, decent MPG and pretty reliable outside of niggles relating mainly to oil leaks or sensor issues I personally haven't come across too many mechanical failures.

Hey Harry sounds interesting but it's a shame there's no pics. If it checked out I'd have considered it if I was looking which I was a year ago.
I do like that early W212 shape which most people dislike but I've read the seats are less comfortable than W211 and interior not as good. I don't know how true that is though. Similar engine to mine but much higher outputs. Should be quick as mine isn't lacking either.

Barging is about the ethos not the vehicle. It's long been that way on here and long may it continue.

Anyway, I bought a car today. Not a barge as my wife dislikes large cars but I was pleased to pick up a supermini with a barge like equipment list.

Highlights include the panoramic roof, climate control, heated seats and heated steering wheel, front and rear parking sensors. I suspect I'll enjoy borrowing it from time to time.

I'd buy that if it wasn't so far away.

I think this is gorgeous but need big brave pants for it. I think it's been for sale for ages too.

P38 question,

Presumably, when faced with a list of advisories like this the correct answer is to walk away, or get Very good at welding, or just slap a load of underseal on and hope for the best a la what th vendor is blatantly going to do? It's £950 for a 4.6 in not fine nick, but...

- Front Power steering pipe/hose slightly corroded (2.1.5 (g) (i))
- Front Oil leak, but not excessive (8.4.1 (a) (i))
- corrosion through out chassis
- Central Rear Tow bar cross member corroded
- Nearside side steps support corroded
Offside side step supports corroded
You might as well jump in a full bath with a plugged in toaster.
This list of advisories is especially eyebrow-raising, as P38’s were galvanised.

Yes give yourself a good hard slap and step away from the internet before you do something bad.

>shame<
I actually deleted some of the simple ones in addition to the list I posted to make it look "not that bad".

I'd best leave it...

As far as I remember the bodywork is mostly aluminium like the RR Classic and Landy/Defender, and the chassis is steel, but not galvanised from the factory.

Oh yes, that big and brave and very special too. Starship mileage appeals too.

Not convinced: front driver's side wing looks to have been painted as the colour match with the door is off, paint on the front bumper looks funny, bad panel gap between the rear quarter and bumper on the passenger side, dent in driver's side front door. Seems a little at odds with the seller's claim of "meticulous no-expense-spared attitude towards maintaining this car".

V12 for under 4k though, I guess I shouldn't be too picky tongue out

Sounds like a picky tester to me. Rocket cover gaskets need doing every 2yrs or they leak oil. Nothing major. The side steps are made from he cheapest steel ever and are all shot underneath now - simply remove. Pipes slightly corroded - as expected at this age unless it’s a W126.
Rear tow bar cross member - mine was like that and I had to take easy remedial repair action.

I’ve been there. Rust is not an issue on a P38 - I actually think they were the first non rusty LR product made.

It’s all of the other stuff that wouldn’t flag in an MOT that you should be worried about!

A big V8 at £3750, with the cloth interior... if it had leather I would likely have bought it.

I like that and want it more than is sensible. Pity about the Cat C but a very likeable thing. (Definitely not a thang).
