And is it just me, or is there something in the water? This used to be a nice thread with a mix of sympathy and gentle mockery, and seems to have suddenly got strangely argumentative.

Managed to hit the door dead centre, but the MR2 is so low the sill looks untouched.

I had to get out of the passenger door, which required some contortions.
Ouch. Did you get away with just the door or did it bend the frame in the process?
I'm hoping it's just the door, but we'll have to wait until the side skirt is removed to see.

Even finding a door may be a challenge - there's not many mk1 MR2's here in Aus.
Absolutely gutted for you. Those MR2s are truly special machines. Hope you get it back on the road soon.

I don't remember seeing many without a sunroof or T bar.....
Please don't scrap it. I bet with patience you'll find a scrapper donor door one somewhere.

This is a very early Japanese model - I don't know how it ended up in Aus.

I'm definitely not scrapping it, after all the work I've done over the years, including an engine & gearbox transplant.
I only finished rebuilding the rear suspension & replacing the brakes a few months ago frown.

If the insurance co. decides to write it off, I get to keep it, and will source a door myself.

nah - every so often a driving god gets out of bed on the wrong side there's a bit of jawjaw and then (thankfully) it all dissipates

I know the old ‘stuck throttle’ gets banded around waaaay too freely, but I genuinely had one on a 1100cc motorcycle due to intake clamps wedging the throttle open the first time I went WOT. Absolutely terrifying experience and despite all the hindsight of of just pull the clutch in etc, initial reaction is trying to work out what the fk is going on while closing down on something at many many leptons !!

Had similar in my old mustang - when I got home it transpired that the car mat had managed to jam the throttle open. As you might imagine they were binned PDQ

Not mine and I know what the title says, but I came across this on copart… its so bad that I think it warrants to be on this thread as an exception regardless.

https://www.copart.co.uk/lot/66353981/2004-bmw-320...

WTF

Haunting….. hopefully nobody was seriously hurt. I doubt it was fatal as otherwise it wouldn’t be on copart ..

Bizarre how it's even considered saleable in any form. What could you use from that and how do they value it at 1700..

I think they use the retail value of the equivalent vehicle in a clean state.

If I lived near and owned a scrapper I would buy it for £1 and crush it.
