Like all BMWs, as time goes on, the early non-sport cars start looking better than their younger siblings.
The E39 has come of age.

Still waiting for a call back on that one.
There was an identical one at SS with the BBS splitties on. Looked mega.

The headlights are one of the best bits!
Orange is so 1990's And seriously they are awful in the dark... halogen Angels are still st but 10 times better than these. I agree an unmolested pre facelift E39 is a very nice car... but I can't help but put some fancy facelift bits on mine. So far I have Hella Angels, bootlip spoiler, facelift clear (non celis) Hella rear lights, a genuine Alpina front bumper/splitter to go on. Just got to source some type 32 wheels and a facelift grill, and I'll be happy sparks_E39 said:
Except those wing mirrors. It's like BMW blew the budget on making the car so good, and the cooling system, heater buttons and those big square things were left till last when they had 50p left and a Friday afternoon
a) It seems ever so slightly lame doing that
b) People still seem happy to pay £500 for a set of second hand wing mirrors. Bonkers.

Quite agree, I'll be keeping mine. £500 worth of wheels is much more sensible. Out of interest Fox what would you go for on a car such as mine, 32's? I love Alpinas, but £1000+ for a decent set then tyres is a bit much. a) It seems ever so slightly lame doing that

Don't listen too them Olly. Yellow lights would look stupid on a Sport.
If I bought that car, it would have yellow foglights within 24 hours.sparks_E39 said:

Slam it hard over throwing stars. I promise it'll look incredible.

I have a strange urge to buy an E39 just so I can do that to it. Can anyone hear Fox sharpening his tools?
On E39s with the wrong engine would this

with the wheels back to standard be more or less sensible than this

Just in case.
I was thinking the first one looked like a nail but it's close and if I go back to one car it needs to have enough power to keep me awake and overtake on A roads, but ideally be not much worse on fuel than the Puma.
The alternative is that we pay a hefty premium to borrow something new and slightly desalinated (150bhp RCZ being this months favourite) for her to use and I continue to be stuck in a shed or small car day to day.

Not perfect but Moffat away.
Can we run this through the universal translator?"Not perfect but near enough"
Anyway, I'm back. Reset the fuel computer on the bottom of the M1 and happy to see 31MPG from the V8 when I got home, though I was no where near pushing it (and in a 50 limit for a fair chunk) that's still better than expected.
Ride isn't quite as good as I thought it would be but the body control is superb. Guess that's the trade of with the M-Sport bits.
Engine is sublime, quite lovely and fairly relentless.
Couple of bits need doing. Rear window doesn't work and the dash display pixels are out but fundamentally it's not a bad bus
