It looks awesome thumbup
I agree. Looks a wonderful project. Far more interesting than the rectangular barn style too.

I hope to embark upon a new garage build in the coming months. I have designed it myself with car storage and workshop in mind and the plan would be that the centre section will be a workshop with ramp/lift and the sides will be capable of stacking cars should I end up adding more!

The architects have done the below drawing to my design but i will be adding some more narrow high level windows to the back walls. There is currently a 5 x 5.5m deep garage already attached to the house so i'll be removing its end wall and continuing out with the new design. The roof will be a flat but angled type with the gradient running from front to back. The doors will be roller type so as not to impinge on internal height etc. The angled piece on the end will serve as bicycle storage and workshop. I will mount a car charger on the end wall too where my daily will be parked.

I haven't quite decided on flooring but it will likely be tiled but this thread has some fantastic inspiration for me to work with!!

I already have a pair of the Automech Services floor mounted (not flush) lifts but will likely sell them and get a two post as I think that will give me the most flexibility.

Lighting will be LED panels similar to GFWilliams ones as they look very clean and will be a good look.

I may put internal drainage in the workshop section in case I take cleaning the cars any more seriously and want to wash inside. I live in the north of Scotland so sunny days can be a rarity and when they do come I like to be out in a car!

Between my father and I we have some quite valuable classics so i will likely build in a dehumidifier and/or put in some heating that can be used from time to time.

Anyway, planning is still being applied for as part of a much larger adjustment to the house but the garage will be done first and then the house contents will be moved into it for the house re-work to be done. I'll keep this thread updated on the plans.
Not dissimilar to mine, great to have the space.

I went for a recessed scissor lift in the centre, perhaps not quite as good if you're doing serious work on a car, but tidier when not in use.

Funnily enough it was your garage I was thinking of when I posted below in being a more interesting shape than a box. Love that sort of design.

Evening all.

Fairly recently broadband signal boosters were discussed.
I’m not overly tech savvy, so can someone please tell me that I’d i buy these, I can plug one in near the router in my house, the other in my garage, and have half decent signal for my wi-if in my garage?
(Garage is approx 25 yards away from router).

Thanks in advance!

They need to be on the same cable circuit to work at their best. Ie on the same ring main.

Once you go through the consumer unit they start to drop in and out a bit more. Depends on the make/model of consumer unit.

I’d order from Amazon, test it and return if necessary.

Ahhhh right.
Garage has it’s own circuit board, so maybe not best to sort my issue.
I sometimes get WiFi in there but it’s so weak it’s not worth trying to do anything.

Thanks for help.

Could you use one of those plugs to get the signal a bit closer by plugging it into the nearest (same circuit board) socket to the garage?

Simplest answer (and certainly most reliable) might be to run a cable

If I ever need wifi in the garage, I just create a hotspot on my mobile.

My garage has its own circuit board, so I assume powerline won't really work, though I've never tried it.

Wifi Mesh is your answer both as close to each other as poss in the two building.

Or a few quid for an outdoors job: https://www.amazon.co.uk/NETGEAR-Extender-Satellit...

Following a tip from a poster on here I bought one of the powerline sockets (25 quid in Argos/Sainsbury) and it worked a treat. Plugged one in living room by router with cable into my router and the other into my workshop/shed in the garden which has its own mini consumer unit in it but is then wired into main consumer unit under the stairs in the house and it works perfectly. Saved me a lot of hassle running a cable down there. I now have a smart tv and an Alexa in the workshop so music when I want and streaming tv. Does work even on different breaker.

I have a garage about a hundred metres from my place (I live in a large apartment block) so no chance of using the power cables to get wifi in the shed.

I just used an old mobile phone with a cheap sim (Lebara) to create a wifi hotspot and leave the phone in the garage. Lebara have loads of 4g plans starting at £4 a month.

In my build we have plastered walls and ceilings. I just need to sort out the floor and I've been wavering for the last few weeks.

There is a 10mm gap between plasterboard and floor. The area is about 50m2.

One minute I want a resin floor but worried that it is only 4mm thick. Surely that won't survive a floor jack of any sort
Then there is the MMA which is a bit stronger but also twice the price and no thicker
Then there are floor tiles which I'm worried about because although they are 8mm thick and therefore will give a nice clean edge to teh room , I think the edges and connectors will always get bits of swarf and oil from the mill and lathe stuck between and won't be easy to clean
Not enough depth for screed

Also must have emailed/left messages for about ten different companies in Kent/SE in the last two weeks, with pictures and dimensions and not a single reply.

Decisions decisions. Although they are very nice decisions to have

Exactly what I have used to great effect.

Tenda Nova MW3 and give decent coverage. Unlike hotspotting etc, means on all the time which also means I have CCTV coverage in the garage.

Split purpose, some reclaimed timber for the workshop side and tile the parking area?

Wood will be warmer and might save you if you drop things. Won’t come cheap though...

Been working on mine the last few weekends, got the ceiling up this weekend - just the carpet tiles, cabinet fronts and some decoration touch ups.

Im not a home mechanic, i have a friend with a proper workshop and i have indoor space at work if i want to tinker - the home garage is just a tidy room, workspace and somewhere for my things.

Ive built a 1.2m deep walk in cupboard across the back for all the stuff, building a new shed outside for the pushbikes and fire wood

One of my garages (the tidy one as it has power!!) Hoping to move in a year and double garage or space for one is top of my list, along with a large pond...
Sadly even with a healthy budget, SE house prices mean it will be tough to get what I want.
Definately falls in the category of a working garage rather than showroom!

I think I might have overdone it a little Just bought 12 48W led panels for the roof of the 50m2 room hehe

I don't want to have to use a worklight.
