I'm more concerned with the car that seems to have sunk in to the tarmac...

The tabloids would probably conclude a third of motorists should have gone to specsavers biggrin

Sign says "Reverse parking only" just in case you can't see it.

Clearly Vauxhall drivers are the best at reading signs.

Pardon my ignorance, but is there a reason for reverse parking only there?

I presume it's something to do with safety? Lack of blindspots by not having to reverse out perhaps?

Always safer to reverse park, some will disagree when parking in shop car parks, but generally safer, and the debate has been thrashed to death, but probably more important in my post as it’s near to a school.

All our construction sites are reverse parking only and office parking.

Big signs everywhere but sill get the occasional front in parker who, in our site in Leeds, gets a proper telling off from the receptionist in her own unique style smile

Is there any data to back this up? I know certain organisations say it's safer, but they must have data to say this.

I went to Canada in 2019, and parked in a underground car park which all seemed to be “reverse park only” was much better than the car parks here where cars just reverse our seemingly blindly.

I reverse park 99% of the time, exception if the space is just straight ahead, then I just go in forward. It just seems safer and quite often is easier to reverse .

I did pull in forward in a space in America, then I realised the blind spot on my Challenger was awful, made reversing out a challenge. Reversed into every space after that.

My dad told me to always reverse park in pub car parks as you can never predict how pi$$ed you'll be when it gets to closing time. [This was pre 1967]

In a Caterfield your head is about 2 feet from the rear of the car and 10 feet from the front. Reverse parking is definitely not safer.

Can that actually be enforced in the uk or is it guideline only. I understand some private companies enforce it in their own car parks etc.

Imagine that being buried amongst all the other restrictions on the notices in some car parks. It would be a hoot to see the face of a disgruntled owner in the media having a whinge about the ticket they'd been given! Or maybe we shouldn't be putting ideas up for adoption.

I used to work at a place where we were specifically told to face forward when parking so that our exhausts didn't mark the buildings. Anybody that fell foul of this tended to get an email from HR and possibly a visit from the boss's wife

I had the same advice, but for different reasons. That my car had no reversing light or rear demister, and someone might later park too close, so driving out would be easier.

So you run the kids over on your way in rather than your way out?
