Love that 540 on the C&C link and a decent add. These GS 430 seem to suffer much worse depreciation compared to the LS - a 7 yr old V8 within haggle range
I just found a great car on Auto Trader:

Photographs usually flatter a car, but even from the photos that looks absolutely ruined and fit for nothing but scrapping.

It's not a rare enough car to bother with the not inconsiderable cost of restoring it, and once an old BMW reaches that "stage of it's life" it'll change hands for a few hundred quid until some medium scale mechanical failure will send it to the knackers yard.
That BMW is utterly, utterly dire.

I think the medium scale mechanical failure has already arrived in the form of a gearbox problem. It's ready to lose its useful parts and send the rest for scrap.

I love that e32. I bet with the manual gearbox and 35 engine it would be a great car to do my regular 330 mile journey south.

I received a message from my mechanic today re the Jaguar - it has decided to go into restricted performance mode a couple of times:

"the car reqs a throttle position sensor which only comes from the main dealer at a cost off £700. Do you want to have a look on eBay as you may get the sensor only there. It requires a o2 sensor also  (bank 2 sensor 1) and which appears to be difficult to get also. That's the part no in the image. Cheers"

Hmmmm.
I don't really know that much about the X308, but I do recall that there was a recall done on which the throttle body was replaced free of charge on certain VIN ranges of cars from IIRC 1998/99. Could yours be one of these cars? - Maybe it has missed the recall and you might get Jaguar to fit another one free? Which would be nice...

I have googled it quickly - you may uncover more! Here is a link with the service bulletin (Service action S514): http://www.jagrepair.com/images/TSB/XJ/303-S514am%...

I seem to recall that there was a thread about it on PH, so it may be worth searching this site too.

Oh that's a good find - thanks. I will follow it up.

I am fond of the XJ8 and it has a fantastic history, but I'm not going to spend a fortune on it.

Thanks, something tells me I sold it too cheap, listed last night on C&C and Facebook marketplace.

First person arrived this morning @8am (was turning them away at 9 last night!) cash given and car now gone, just got his sheddy E36 328i waiting to be collected now.

I'm also car-less for a week until I collect the new one but changing everything, moving out of the smoker barges for a while, will miss the old battlebus!

That can't be a 2010 car. The GS430 was discontinued in 2007, I believe. (Replaced by the ultra rare GS460)

No apparently the jap cars don't have them. Quite why I don't know!

Given I don't have a choice, I prefer not having them

That is a good find. Thanks from myself also.

The 'not spending a fortune' was initially my philosophy when I picked up R40 JGR back in 2015 (A Barge thread purchase).
But in typical thread fashion has proved to be not the case.

Down to Keith P in Eastbourne for cam chains, paint and a few other bits and bobs; Tom L at Hogwood Farm for new CAT shocks, lowering springs and some carefully considered polybushing (I know, I know, but has completely transformed the handling).
The XJ is now my 'go to' car at the moment.
Gratuitous pic with the Z4MC asleep in the background after the 1000 Miglia tour in May.

Phwoar, two nice barges in short order here, good work both!

The side repeaters on the SL are niggling a little bit, it looks nice without them spoiling the wings, but somehow it looks wrong after all these years looking at R129's with them.

The SL is looking superb.
I prefer the amber indicators – I think you have made the right choice.
On an indicator-related (but non-barge) issue, I am off tomorrow to have a look at a ’98 Boxster at a local garage.
This has the indicators “updated” to the clear type and will be the first thing I change if I buy it.
Yes, I know the Boxster is a rinky-dinky-girly thing but after two disappointing air-cooled 911s, I feel I have some unfinished business with Porkers and I need to try a Tiptronic car.
On a more positive note, the car is in the bargain basement and if it disappoints, he also has a ’95 XJS.
Bubblegum Porsche or a Jaaaaaggg?

That's not a bad choice to have to make. I've never owned a Porsche, but a late XJS is a very hard car to overlook.

If you get to look at the Jag stick your hands right inside the plastic sill covers and have a bloody good feel about, no matter how clean it appears. Also in the boot get the side carpet up and get your hand in and feel above where the exhaust back boxes would be. Even one with no advisories for rust on the MOT and looking clean as a whistle to even a fairly good inspection can be hiding serious rot. Mind you so can an E39 or practically any Mercedes in our target budget.
