Lorry driver far to close not a chance he could stop if had to but cam car also a massive bellend why do people just sit along side someone else neither overtaking or being overtaken? Either get in front and move back to lane 1 or stay behind the van stop fking about and wondering why you get people up your chuff, just another road captain then slowing to 35 in the 50 to try wind people up one day itl be a lunatic in the truck that’ll just plow into him.
Have to agree. The speed limit on a motorway is 70mph, we all know people exceed that but it's not anyone's place to police that! Just move aside.
If the lorry driver wants to speed, it's not up to the van driver to sit in an overtaking lane not overtaking and intentionally slowing the lorry down. No, the lorry shouldn't tailgate but the DCW is being antagonistic.
Reminds of the guy on the M4 on Sunday, in the section with a reduced limit (50), insisting on doing just under but being in lane three. Then waving his hands at people for going past him in lane two! Not sure if he was annoyed they went past or that they crept just over 50 to pass him. This didn't deter him from then sailing off in lane three once the the limit went back up to 70 at around 80/85mph!

We had these roadworks on the M3 for years. I knew 55-58 was fine but every day I'd sit behind some bellend in L3 doing spot on 50mph because there were cameras. I'd use other lanes and you could see them getting all arsey about me going past. Oddly they didn't do the same once past the NSL sign! Frimley111R said:

There is much more of a pack mentality in average speed zones. Everyone is doing much the same speed (compared to NSL on motorways), and outsiders are suspicious and hated.Frimley111R said:

I would do it at 53 ish 55 indicated, but wouldn't feel comfortable doing more than that, its difficult to be certain where the threshold is set.G13NVL said:
So on a 3 lane motorway say with no ‘congestion’ I’m travelling in a HGV at 56 in lane 1, catch someone doing 45 in lane 2, I can’t use lane 3 to pass so according to that if I just carried on in lane 1 and passed the lane 2 hog I could be done for careless driving?
Well yes maybe, but hopefully it won't happen. It has to be more likely though with the Dashcam upload initiatives. Frimley111R said:

You'd almost understand it if like you say on the NSL section they vehemently stuck to 70mph but they then accelerate off at 70+.
As mentioned in a following post, there is a real pack mentality on the 50 sections and also it's as if all normal rules just disappear in turn keeping left is seen as even more optional than normal!

Theyre supposed to be taking out these 50s anyway.
Everyone suspected they werent as safe as they should be - so whats the point
As for this 40 for about half a mile - whats the point of that
Same bunch of morons who put up "Road Closed" sign down the road when a country road badly worn by trucks up and down for couple of years building the Aberdeen by pass was totally refurbished, and forgot to take the signs down when it was finished. Dorks.Everyone suspected they werent as safe as they should be - so whats the point

Is it really a 40 - does it have full 40 signs either side of the carriageway or are they just left over repeaters from previous works?

Isnt there something in the traffic mauals about the size of the signs for speed of traffic and the height about the road should be no more than 2.1 metres or too many people will miss them?
And that the speed limit has to be there for one of a set of reasons none of which is because we felt like it

Which of course ignores what the courts have said and that "These conditions" have to include congestion and vehicles moving at similar speeds. Probably why you didn't quote that bit I occasionally overtake on the nearside as you describe but I know, as when I exceed the speed limit, that I am bang to rights if they decide to take action.
But they won't if you're not driving dangerouslyEdited by Graveworm on Tuesday 16th July 10:48
They really should start using cameras to prosecute for lane discipline on the smart motorways
Last week j19-18 I was doing 70 in lane 1 , 3 cars in a line doing 60 in lane 3 because 1/2 a mile away in lane 2 a truck was doing 56
How many accidents is it going to cause if the law says to cross 1 to 4 to overtake muppets in 3 then return to 1 until you reach truck in 2 then go 1 to 3 then back to 1
If everybody did that it'd be chaos but lane 3 is the new lane 2 for the dawdler

Bit of a close call. Hope the owners got it back. No idea where it escaped from as on the right side is a huge retail park
