It was, of course, rebuilt, but trying to outbrake the GT Maestro, Ray Bellm, going into a chicane, was very foolish

Was it a standard Maestro or the MG Turbo as I don’t remember a GT model?
There was a Montego GTi, maybe confusion in all the drama?

If you can afford to race a classic like this you can afford to repair it regardless of cost , if not then just stupidity in action , sad to see this carnage however

I thought a lot of people had exact replica’s made for racing because the original is worth so much?

120 mph, and the bonnet of the car in front flies off straight towards your head. You swerve, hit the armco, bounce across to the other armco, then the car rolls and rolls, trapping the driver under the car now on fire. Luckily another driver stops and puts the fire out and with the aid of others saves the driver and his only injury was a broken collar bone. Le Mans Classic 2004. And if you thought the GT40 photos were frightening, prepare yourselves.
Behind this @1:00 in the video?

You have hit the nail on the head there. Yes, it was the Allard which was being driven by a German I believe. The photos I took were taken at the inside of the Mulsanne bend where the car was trailered after the accident. A big pat on the back is owed to Guy Broad who stopped his XK and used his fire extinguisher to put the fire out. One big problem of the Classic is the lack of marshals. To give an example, in 2004 there were about 30 on the hump before Mulsanne and about 10 for the Classic. Some posts are not even manned at all such as the second one on the way to Indianapolis where more recently there was a huge shunt where a Ferrari cut across an F1 car. I forget which one now. you can see the Allard bonnet in this photo:-

Firstly, no crash to report, but a VERY near miss. Driving home yesterday afternoon to lock up the birds at sunset. The road was clear and dry, and I was around the speed limit. Came through the bend captured in this image to be faced with a red Skoda Roomster, committed to an overtake, fully on our side of the road. He'd not yet passed any point of the car he was over taking. A full on emergency stop, he was may be 4 car lengths away from us. I genuinely thought I was about to have a head on, and recall observing to my left very quickly to check it was viable to instead put the car in the field. With metres, literally, to spare he swerved back on to his side of the road. From the second I saw him and braked my palm was full on the horn till he pulled back in. Genuinely, no word of exaggeration, had I come through the bend ONE second later he would have been alongside the other car and it would have resulted in either a head on at a probable combined 120mph, or our car being ditched in to the field making a least some what of a mess.

After composing myself I pulled over and 999'd it, and pressed the red button on the dashcam. I hope it saved to get his reg, for the police. If it has I'll also post it up.

Nicely changed, Jazoli. If it was that close, it should be on here AND other threads.

It was as close as I've ever come to a seriously bad accident, and it seriously scared the crap out of both of us. If there is any decent captured footage it will go up on the sh*t driving/cam thread.
Also worth sending to UKdashcam Youtube channel. Hundreds of examples on there of bad driving and crashes. Lots to be learned by watching it, mostly swear words.

@fermit, Is that it, really? This thread is for crash pictures you didn’t even come to a stop… lol

Edit, whilst nothing wrong with it and do it all the time, I wonder how notts police will view your using of all the road? I would put it down to experience and just move on. There really is nothing here worth reporting he made a mistake and corrected and you were driving at an appropriate speed to avoid the crash so pat on the back. If you have time to sound the horn you aren’t at the limits..

He's barely over the white line and you had soo much time you even managed to get on the horn.

It was a retarded place to try and overtake, that's for sure!

They didn't even commit to the overtake, seems like a waste of police resources to grass them in for that.

I wouldn't have gone for the overtake there, but to grass someone in for that seems way over the top.

Do you work/ read the daily mail? An alarmist I nearly died non story with quotes taken out of context. Like I said nothing wrong with using all the road, I do it all the time. my concern is how the old bill will view it; this won’t go past trained drivers but some administrator who might interpret it as, wet conditions, driving on the wrong side of the road and therefore too fast for conditions and contributing to a ‘near’ accident? Anyway if you have any crash pics please feel free to use this thread.

At the start of the video you are clearly utilising both sides of the road. Why?
The video doesn’t convey the terminal velocity well but I’m sure it was an arse twitcher. I think the other driver has likely scared themselves too and possibly learned from the experience.

TBH I find myself siding with Fermit here - a few seconds later and that had the potential to be properly nasty. The fact that the skoda driver was that brainless is cause for concern and I'd be tempted to dob him in too, the less twunts like that on the road the better

I think it should be in that thread:

It's not a crash and it's not a pic.
