I should add that the back end regularly used to break away in his Astra and his dream car is a Evoque.

He once showed me a picture of his Dads dream car and told me to come have a look at a picture as he didn't get it. It was a Cerbera... Well into his cars though mind, well into them rolleyes

I've been amazed over the years the number of lads (and PH'ers!) who say they're into cars when they clearly aren't.

In fairness, he is clearly into cars.
whether or not he has taste and good judgement is another matter.

Lovely - I bet that's an interesting handful!
Reminds me of an article in the mid 90s in the MG owners club mag about an engineer who spent years shoehorning a Jab V12 into an MGB GT biglaugh - he managed to keep it externally almost stock, just a bonnet bulge and some louvres; otherwise it had little in common with Abingdon's finest, with radiators in the rear, E-type running gear and plenty more.

I was filling up the other day and the woman in front of me asked the man at the till if there was any big bottles of water at room temperature "I don't want one out of the fridge because I'm putting it in my car and it will be bad for the engine"
And this is silly because...?
I was thinking that. She had obviously driven to the petrol station so would have hot water in her radiator. Suddenly poring fridge cold water into the rad would probably not be a good idea.
how about driving along with a hot engine, while ice cold water pelts it through the grill or from underneath?

Depends where she was intending to put it. She could have been intending to fill the washer reservoir.

What do you need a car like that for? You can only go 70 miles an hour.
Really winds me up when people say that. One of my top 3 things non-petrol heads say about cars

I'll start us off with two.

Colleague at work who firmly believes their 92k mile Saxo is worth approx £2000.

Another colleague who tells everyone all BMWs are 2.0 litre, its just the power output thats different...
'All cars are the same' that one really bugs me!
I was at the NEC Classic car show and this man was going crazy over an Aventador roadster, calling it an Aventador J!

anytime I am looking at another car vaguely shiny in a magazine or on a computer out of personal interest, "oh you looking for a new car?"

I guess what is being referred to here (especially if the water level in the engine is low) is the possibility of the very cold water going straight through the top hose, and into the head and cracking it through thermal shock.

I still reckon the car haters, who say we must not build any more roads, because if we do, they will only fill up with more cars, has to be one of the dumbest things non petrol heads come out with.

11 yr old daughter said to me, 'I don't know why you love your car so much daddy, they're just there to get you from one place to another'.

A little bit inside of me died. Then I disowned her.

There's a girl at work with an "M" badge on a BMW MINI Cooper D. I asked "why?" and she told me that's how she bought it from the dealer (Listers BMW, King's Lynn).

Asking them would involve talking to a BMW dealer so as I haven't been in a coma for a while I gave it a miss.
Yah but if it didn't have an 'M' it would be an 'ini'. Who wants to drive an 'ini'?

I have an Impreza wrx. Had it for 2 years now.
My dad has an Audi estate. Had it for about 10 years.

I was watching Fifth Gear with the wife this week. They had a Subaru Legacy, Audi and a Volvo T5 on as budget options.

First car comes up. The Subaru Legacy.

Her "thats just like your dads car isn't it"
Me "er, not really, it's just like the car we have outside, the Audi is what my dad has"

I then get a look like I'm special and deserve sympathy.

Her "no it's that one, thats just like your dads, except your dads is an Audi and its black"
Me "yeah just like the black Audi they had on screen 30 seconds ago"
Her "hmmm yeah, I suppose you might be right"

Fortunately at this point Jason Potato chimed in with something about the WRX underpinnings on the Legacy and she conceded I wan't going mental.
