Back in the day I bought a 2nd hand XR3i.

In the spare wheel well I found a half empty box of .22 bullets and a roll of gaffer tape.

There was also a mysterious dark red stain on the boot carpet.... the previous owner must have spilt a bottle of Ribena I guess.... :-/

It took me more than six months to realise that I heated mirrors, I didn't know I had them because I assumed that all heated mirrors had the symbol etched into the glass like all my previous cars.

Sounds like my mates old Capri which came complete with a bullet hole in the rear going straight through into the boot. :-0

When performing a difficult parking manoeuvre in my Megane I turned the knob for the door mirrors too far, felt a click and watched the mirrors automatically fold themselves in. I had no idea that they did that.

I'd owned the car for more than two years.

I drove around for two years in the Boxster with a trolley-jack and halfrauds wheel brace in the front boot as I thought the original items were missing.

Little did I know that a scissor jack and full tool kit were neatly stowed behind the space-saver spare. rolleyes

I amaze myself sometimes.....

I'd had my Puma eight months before I realised the back seats DO fold down....

AND was shown how to do it by my mates Mum.

The shame... the shame...
Why was your mates mum, folding seats down in your Puma?? MILF & dogging Fetish?
Well, she is quite tidy for an older girl... scratchchin

I know someone who took their new Ford Orion in to have a CD fitted only to be told that it had a 6 disk changer in the boot already smile
I once had a job on to fit a CD changer to an Audi TT, had a bit poke around as - to my knowledge - all TTs came with a CDC, and sure enough, there it was in the rear passenger arm rest. The owner hadn't the foggiest idea it was there, and all that was missing was the mag. £20 from Audi later, one happy owner!

Spare wheel in my E46, under the bootfloor there was an empty recess that looked built to hold the spare. I then found the spare under the plastic cover at the bottom of the recess.

Sadly I had to call the previous owner to realise this paperbag

It took me ages to find the CDC in my TT as well. Only found it accidentally when two friends were in the back - one on the right found the first aid kit, one on the left pulled out the mag and asked the other what it was. Between them the girls couldn't work it out, even though CDs were flying everywhere.

I also found out today that you can change track on a connected iPod on my car by just pressing the channel change button on the steering wheel.

I bought an 18 month old alfa 75 from a car auction in 1990 which had 32,000 miles and no service history. It was cheap,in good condition,I was used to Alfas and prepared to take a risk on it and most importantly I really, really wanted it.

I ordered a handbook etc a few months later and for once read it when it arrived.I soon noticed a reference to a glovebox that had escaped my notice having been cunningly disguised as a shelf. It turned out that the said glovebox contained a full history and handbook.

So I discovered a new glovebox,a service history and that I really did have a bargain.

MG ZR 105+ - 14months in, discovered it didn't have ABS after all yikes as I skidded down the M1 in a cloud of smoke
iirc was an optional extra (I know...) though thought it was standard on the + models.

I think parkers have all the extras that can be bought listed. Quite interesting trying to figure out what the car has and doesn't have!

Had my TVR Chimaera for 6 months before noticing a button under the steering column. I pressed it and hey presto!,, nothing happened. I left it pressed and drove off. 5 mins later my seat started to get warmer. Now this usually means i've p1ssed myself, but this time it was because I had discovered heated seats.

Having wrestled with the boot floor/spare wheel cover of out A4 for months having had to banace it on my head whilst rummaging for the spare and so on and finally loosing my temper and frisbee'ing it across the garden... I then discovered that the handle in the boot floor lifts up to a) open the cover up and b) also forms a hook so you can lift the floor up and "hook" it onto the lip of the boot at the base of the rear window... thus you can rummage about without having to hold it up.

I also discovered that the washers on the V70 flick left to right to help clean more of the screen and also discovered that the bonnet can open to 45degs but if you undo a couple of clips on the hinge mechanism, it'll flip up further and lock at 90degs which makes working under the bonnet so much easier.

Simple things...

Having bought an old BMW from a police auction, can you imagine the surprise I got when I found 1/2 a kilo of heroin in the air filter when I serviced it a couple of months later, it more than got me my money back for the car!
I can imagine the suprise of finding £20K of Heroin uncut, and then realising I would make about £10K maximum back or around £1K with no contacts, if I was lucky in cash and no expenses.

The plastic bits to move the air vents rattle on my Abarth 500. There is also a secret small storage area under the passenger side cubby hole which I keep all my petrol receipts in smile
